I’ve heard the same about UG, and many friends and family members think Sandler is hilarious. To me, he’s as stimulating as a second coat of paint. Now, Groucho is where madness and genius meet! [img src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/oBooKhQgDwbw0VxoHmAe.gif" alt=" " class="smile"] Embarrassed to admit I have not seen a single Groucho Marx movie. You’re in for a treat! Remember the era in which these were made and pay close attention to the dialogue. So many double entendres.

I'm not a fan of Adam Sandler but apparently he was very good in Uncut Gems. And the movie was great too according to what I've heard. I’ve heard the same about UG, and many friends and family members think Sandler is hilarious. To me, he’s as stimulating as a second coat of paint. Now, Groucho is where madness and genius meet! To me it seems as though Adam Sandler exhausted every form of “retard” in so many movies that there was nowhere to go with that vehicle for anyone ever again. I’ve never even tried to sit through one of his movies, so perhaps I’ve missed someone. I think he wanted to be the modern day Jerry Lewis. I liked those Martin and Lewis movies as a kid, but now I see nothing in them to make me laugh. I really wound up not caring for Jerry Lewis at all after I matured into a... well as mature as I ever got any way... I’m so proud of this group that no one brought up any of the movies from the 70’s porn craze...”Debbie did something somewhere”, “Deep this or that”, you know, that entire genre...As a whole I do think that the genre deserves mention, simply because it was amazing when you found out who was attending them from your home town. Reminds one of Bob Seger’s tunes, “The Fire Down Below”. Perhaps that was his inspiration...

Another non-Sandler vote here, although I suppose I did laugh the first time he did the Cajun Man routine on SNL. He wears thin very quickly, and I think the comparison to Jerry Lewis is apt. Except Lewis was a much bigger star and even more aggressively in your face with his appalling act. I always kind of liked Dino though. Likewise, though not as obnoxious and despite the classic baseball skit, I don't think Abbott and Costello hold up very well either. The Marx Brothers, on the other hand, especially in their early films where they had more creative control, still seem brilliant to me (even allowing for Zeppo). True screen originals. I understand that they are probably too slow-moving for a modern audience, but I still enjoy the charm and interaction of Laurel and Hardy. Especially "Sons of the Desert," "Way Out West" and "A Chump at Oxford." A different category perhaps, but I am not above admitting great affection for The Three Stooges. Up until the 1980s, film critics didn't even deign to mention them, considering them more or less beneath contempt (oh, a wise guy eh?). But Leonard Maltin, surrendering to what was then 50 years of unbroken popularity, gave them a chapter in his book on greatest screen comedy acts, and slowly they became, if not respectable, at least mentionable. Moe, Larry, cheese.

Parasite won the Oscar for best movie. Anybody see it? It was the best movie I've seen in a while. So happy it won. I've recently take up watching Korean movies. "Memories of Murder", an earlier film by the director of "Parasite" Bong Joon-Ho, is good. Watched "Burning" over the weekend. It's a very slow paced story that's worth the wait in the end. One of the stars is Steven Yeun from "The Walking Dead". Not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.

Thinking of Adam Sandler again:
So he was able to play a mentally impaired football player. He did a mentally impaired combo of golf and hockey. Where’s his mentally impaired basketball movie?
I understand why he doesn’t do baseball, after all, we’ve already seen Pete Rose...

He and I are playing around with a podcast on film. We did one yesterday on "Memories of Murder" and "Burning". We talked a little about 'Parasite", with a little bitching about there's no way "Parasite" would win. What do we know? He and I are 25 years apart in age (I'm older) so we have different tastes and eras. I give him a film to watch that he's never seen and then after seeing it, he's gives me one that I haven't seen that is similar to the one he just watched. For instance, a couple weeks ago, I had him watch "Network" and he had me watch "Bombshell". I was surprised that he loved "Network" and both agreed it was a hell of a lot better than "Bombshell". Last week we watched "North By Northwest" and a Jake Gyllenhaal movie called "Enemy". Guess which one I suggested.

That's awesome you have a podcast on films! I have to see "North by Northwest." Everyone keeps talking about it.

Adam is 39 (He's never seen "The Godfather") and my guess is most people his age haven't watched a lot of the older films, just as I haven't watched the newer ones. I liked "Enemy". It was weird and slow paced, but Jake Gyllenhaal was great in a dual role. He liked North By Northwest and was most surprised by the humor. Hitchcock would often use humor in his films. This coming week I had him watch "Dog Day Afternoon" and he wants me to watch "The Way of the Gun". I'm actually going to start now.

That's my favorite movie of all time. I'm weird in the way that I prefer older movies even though I'm 36. Give me Dog Day Afternoon any day over The Way of the Gun.

Glad to see Brad Pitt won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon A Time in America. Once Upon in Hollywood. Though I enjoyed Once Upon in America too minus that stupid flute music they kept playing through out the 3 hour 49 minute film.

Also technically Brad Pitt won an Oscar for producing 12 Years a Slave though it wasn't an acting Oscar. Do you hate me for being a Nitpicking Nelly yet?
