For Peter Lorre fans, you must see him as the child murderer in the the 1931 Movie “M” directed by Fritz Lang. That one was chilling. The ancient feel of the movie makes it even more so. It was one of the staples of Theater Arts classes back in the day. From before the time when Peter Lorre settled into a comfortable career as a character actor in Hollywood. He was also one of those guys, like Cary Grant or James Cagney or Edward G. Robinson that every bad impersonator used to do back in the 1960s. My brother talked me into to getting a box set of Charlie Chan movies when it went on sale. If anything it humorous and stereotypical of how Asians are viewed during that era. Seeing Hawaii in the 30s is cool.

OK, another thread to enjoy. I really enjoyed the recent mini-series Monsieur Spade. I thought Clive Owen was great. Anyone else see it? It was great, seeing the character Sam Spade in older age. I hope that they a renewed for another season. I'm watching Monsieur Spade. So far watched 2 episodes, Owen is great.

I didn't see that but will add it to my list. The latest show I watched was True Detective Season 4. It wasn't as good as Season 1 of course, but I enjoyed it. It kept my interest through all the episodes and the acting performances were great. I definitely recommend it. What are some of your favorite shows? I really liked Fargo, season 5 was good. I discovered June Temple who was an absolute hoot. Jennifer Jason Leigh was also very good. Really liked Better Call Saul and was sorry to see it end. I like Yellowstone and am patiently waiting to see how they write off Costner. My brother got me watching Fargo and I'm hooked. Anyone watching True Detective? Gilded Age? Their are quite a few interesting series to watched. Alienist was quite enjoyable focusing on the turn of the century NY.

I've had several people recommend The Wire, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and True Detective to me. I've never seen any of them. In fact, the only show on your list I have ever seen was a couple episodes of the Sopranos. I may have to check some of these out. I am really an old school TV guy. In fact, I probably haven't watched a network broadcast show's original airing in 5 to 10 years. I've recommended The Wire to many people and they've all loved it (including rizzuto on this board). The performances, the scripts, the complexity of the narratives, its all top notch.

Most mention Karloff, Price, Chaney, but seldom Lorre.

Gotta be near the top of the list of bad casting decisions...Edward G. Robinson as "Dathan" in "The Ten Commandments". Hilarious SNL/Rob Schneider take on it... www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o3aMo7JkcE

Another great show was Justified. Anything by the late great Elmore Leonard is worth watching. Great characters and great dialog.

It first ran on Prime, but now it's on Freevee. They made a sequel series with many of the same cast. Both are very entertaining and the lead actor Titus Welliver is really good!

Quite an odd fit for a western, but he also appeared in an episode of “Rawhide”…
