CONFESSION: When I first saw this thread, I noticed that the last poster had been pipps. I thought we were going to have a reveal and Pipps was going to tell us his actual identity and that he had once played for the Yankees. Why not? He’s done everything else!... (: Hey boys, coming at you live from Gate 4 at Toscana Airport in Florence on our way to what used to be referred to as "Gay Paree" in a more innocent time. For the record, my baseball skills could carry me no further than playing third base for Unionville High School, so I am certain that Inger and some others on here got closer to being a Yankee draft pick than I ever did. I did actually play in high school against two guys who later were actual major leaguers, as I am sure I mentioned in some long-buried thread. Jon Matlack of West Chester Henderson, against whom I struck out on three pitches on his way to a no-hitter (he was later ROY with the Mets) and Andre Thornton of Phoenixville High School, who later had some success with Cleveland. My only interaction with him was watching him tag third base as he touched them all after a mammoth home run. You could see even then that those guys were on a different level than the rest of us.

I had about a quadrillion bb cards of Bob Friend, all as a Pirate...I recall his face being sort of a combination of Alfred E. Neuman, Roy Clark of “Hee Haw” fame and a shot of Andy Griffith just for fun...

I had cards of all of the guys Inger mentioned, especially Virgil Trucks. I had a ton of his cards. I didn't have Murray Dickson, but have used him in a online SIM league. This thread is so great. I don't remember half these guys, but I've been under some pretty good medication for the past 3 years.
Virgil Trucks, what a name!
That's the card I had a million of. Thanks kay! Brings back great memories.

Hey Kay and Pipps...you could say that again haha! Greatest thing thats ever happened to me though, not even really close truth be told. Life has been really good and hes growing so fast (almost 5 months now). Hes a good sleeper and eater though so we got really lucky.
Hope to be more active during the season...really excited for this year but god damn the injuries are already starting!

We used to play with a kid that was like 4 years younger than our group. The little shit always wanted to play against older guys. They called him “The Bearcat”. He was so small that he had almost no power, but he’d hit, ran the bases like his feet were on fire and played a mean second base. He was selected by the Phillies in the draft and played “okay” for a couple of seasons in the low minors. He got injured and discouraged and quit at that point. After he got home he started working out like a madman and had a growth spurt. He’s put together like the Incredible Hulk. Then he runs for county Sheriff and wins, re-elected a couple of times before deciding to step away from that. Even though he didn’t make it big in baseball, his physical skills were definitely way off the charts. If you want to mess around on MiLB Reference, his name is Barry Janney. Cool guy. I probably haven’t seen him in 35 years...He and his whole family are Yankee fans. Sadly, he lost his mom to ALS...He had an older brother that was also a good player, but had a minor stroke at a young age that sapped his physical skills...
