When one thinks of the WS champion ‘96 Yankees few would give much credit to Mariano Duncan for winning the crown that season. Yet his .340 mark came out of nowhere as he revived his career one last time at age 33. All Duncan did that season was hit. He hit .350 vs. LHP, .317 vs. RHP. He hit .406 at the stadium, .320 at 2B, and when he performed at the rarely asked 3B, LF, RF, DH, or pinch hit roles he combined to get 18 hits in 31 at bats (.561). Duncan, true to his career form, fanned 77 times in his 109 games while taking a free pass only 9 times.
The fallowing season, Duncan started slowly and it wasn’t long before the realized the magic was out of his bat and dumped him as he failed to even live up to his career .267 mark between NY and Toronto in his final season...

That was a fine first place Yankees team in 1976... Don't remember him as a Yankee, but had about dozen of his baseball cards when he was with the Twins.
