Good stuff. I believe all four members are still living, which would make them one of the very few groups from the 60s still intact. The Rolling Stones are playing at Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans this year. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood still at it! By the way, Pipps, check out this guy originally from Sweden who found a home in Louisiana - he's a regular at Jazz Fest: And, the immortal Sam Cooke cover: That was really good Rizz. He has very expressive vocals. That first one reminds me of how seductive SoCal is (for some of us, I know, I know) and well-done Sam Cooke covers are always welcome. There is no pharmaceutical powerful enough to explain how the Stones do what they do.

In 1967, we were lucky at New Brunswick Senior HS (New Jersey, NJ) have to a series of Rock and Roll Concerts. The 1st one feature The Young Rascals, with the opening act of the Philly R&B act, "The Tymes" of the "So in Love Fame." The Young Rascals would introduce their latest single to us, It was "Groovin." Their hit "You better Run," really tore the HS Gym down. Also that year, we saw The Shang-liars and Sam the Sham's Go-Go Revenue. The Rascals would visited Scott Muni with a copy of Groovin' sung in Italian, it was a beautiful to hear. Clipper Now that's a fun high school. The most famous people who came to my high school when I was there were Martin Luther King and Andres Segovia. They were pretty good, but I would much rather have seen the Shangri-Las at that age. I would have like to have seen how they handled "Leader Of The Pack" live, with the motorcycles and "look out look out look out." The Tymes were legends in Philly, even beyond "So Much In Love." They did songs well after that like "You Little Trustmaker" and 'Ms. Grace" that became Carolina Beach Music classics. There are a couple of us on here who belong to that cult. If we can ever get bearman to show back up. Sam the Sham's Go-Go Revue alone would have made it worthwhile to transfer to your school. Holy Cow, if you can't enjoy that there's no hope for you!

Gloria and I headed to Austin tomorrow to visit my friend of over 50 years. He's a pretty accomplished jazz guitarist and taught at Berklee for over 25years. Unfortunately, I don't like this genre of music. His name is Bruce Saunders and here he is playing at Monk's in Austin. He was also a pretty good surfer back in the day. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGl8UWS64gU

One of the best jazz concerts I ever heard was Dave Brubeck at Berklee I think in 2005. All that and he surfs too? Now there's a role model. Enjoy your getaway!

Great show indeed, possibly the best jazz guitar performance I've seen. I've seen a few other great ones -- Lee Ritenour, Jim Hall, Larry Coryell, Pat Martino, Kenny Burrell, Jimmy Bruno -- but he holds his own with any of them.

Okay, one final blast of one-hit wonders for the road.
Starland Vocal Band -- "Afternoon Delight" Yeah, I know they were John Denver's backing vocalists. This is one song I don't mind saying I hate. Although they do harmonize well, give the Devil his due.
The Jaggerz -- "The Rapper" From 1970, and not a rapper in the modern sense of the word.
Vicki Sue Robinson -- "Turn The Beat Around" From the apex of the disco age. Gloria Estefan's cover sounds very much like the original.
Toni Basil -- "Mickey" More early MTV from a veteran choreographer.
Big Country -- "Big Country" These guys ran out of ideas really fast.
Michael Sembello -- "Maniac"
Cutting Crew -- "Died In Your Arms Tonight" Ick.
Madness -- "Our House" They had lots of UK hits, but this was their only one in the US.
Waitresses -- "I Know What Boys Like" From Akron. Like Devo and LeBron.
Soft Cell -- "Tainted Love" Lots of hits in the UK though.
Alicia Bridges -- "I Like The Night Life" More disco earworm.
And some more from my era, the 60s, that some of you might recognize:
The Tradewinds -- "New York's A Lonely Town" "My woody's outside, covered with snow."
The Castaways -- "Liar, Liar"
The Mindbenders -- "Groovy Kind Of Love" Of course they also had a hit backing Wayne Fontana, "The Game Of Love" and later turned into 10CC ("I'm Not In Love" and "The Things We Do For Love").
Ian Whitcomb -- "You Turn Me On"
Crispian St. Peters -- "The Pied Piper"
We Five -- "You Were On My Mind"

I'm a big fan of Neil Young's cover of their "Four Strong Winds".

I'm a big fan of Neil Young's cover of their "Four Strong Winds". Yep. Ian Tyson also wrote "Someday Soon" which Judy Collins made a hit. It was a coincidence that she is from Colorado, which worked well with the lyrics. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRTYr5M9Sqs

Pat Metheny at the State Theater, New Brunswick NJ in 1989. Great show!! I saw Metheny in Santa Monica in 1997. Great show indeed, possibly the best jazz guitar performance I've seen. I've seen a few other great ones -- Lee Ritenour, Jim Hall, Larry Coryell, Pat Martino, Kenny Burrell, Jimmy Bruno -- but he holds his own with any of them. jazz guitar is where i more or less live. though i perform rock (once in a while i'll throw in a jazz tune like "footprints" but the audience thinks i'm tuning up), consider myself more of a "jazz" guitarist. love metheny. seen him over 50 times. never mind guitarist - truly one of the great musicians walking the planet. the breadth of his work is staggering. my absolute hero is pat martino. first heard him in '67 and changed my world. in the late 80's after his whole aneurysm thing (he had to re-learn how to play guitar), had the fortune to become best friends. when he made his ultimate comeback in the 90's, when he played in nyc, he would stay at my apartment. sadly passed a little more than 2 years.
here he is playing one of his most famous compositions: also was friendly with john scofield, john abercrombie and steve khan. even got to play once "for" george benson. did an interview in his house. afterwards told him i was a guitarist and showed him a transcription i had done of one of his tunes. next thing i know he's dragging his amp across the room and giving me his guitar. played for 3-4 minutes before he politely took the guitar and proceeded to show me it's how done for the next 45 minutes .
