They're just endearingly corny clean jokes, especially puns, supposedly told by dads. Often wholesome and predictable.
Some examples:
Why shouldn't you tell secrets in a cornfield? There are too many ears all around. What kind of underpants do lawyers wear? Briefs. What do you call it when a cow grows facial hair? A moo-stache. Did you hear about the two rowboats that got into an argument? It was an oar-deal. Did you hear about the cleaners who went to space? They ended up scrubbing the mission. Great. Now my eyes will be rolling all day. Ever tried to watch a ballgame with rolling eyes? Two of them?… This joke is over my head... Do you need to be a guy to thoroughly get it? Subtle comedy is not my shtick.

An excellent example of a dad joke.... I realized that as I wrote it…😂 Yes...I knew that. Very clever...

This joke is over my head... Do you need to be a guy to thoroughly get it? A joke is no longer funny when it needs to be explained... Which is often a part of what makes a dad joke. Which is either extreme in its subtlety or far too obvious. Seldom in between…

Let me ask an unrelated question. What are "Dad Jokes" Are they popularized in the Midwest? I'm I from a generation that is not cool enough to employ or recognize it? Are they jokes relatable to dads? Unless I live under a rock, I'm not familiar with it's usage. Or perhaps it's not a NYC thing? They're just endearingly corny clean jokes, especially puns, supposedly told by dads. Often wholesome and predictable.

Why did the scarecrow get promoted? He was outstanding in his field!

RIP Greg Kihn. He fronted a band responsible for this decent little rocker, plus other songs like Jeopardy.

RIP Greg Kihn. He fronted a band responsible for this decent little rocker, plus other songs like Jeopardy. I always liked "The Breakup Song." Just straight ahead Top 40 power pop. Kihn was a Baltimore boy who established himself in San Francisco. I vividly remember that song from the summer of 1981 as we were getting ready to move to Washington DC. Other songs out around the same time were "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes, "All Those Years Ago" by George Harrison, "Urgent" by Foreigner, "This Little Girl Is Mine" by Gary "US" Bonds, "Winning" by Santana, "Queen Of Hearts" by Juice Newton and "Slow Hand" by The Pointer Sisters. In reading his obituary I see he died from Alzheimers complications. Too sad. He seemed like a solid guy from what I could find.

I believe Junior Walker played the sax solo in "Urgent"... Good recall. Junior Walker toured with them as well. He made so much good stuff. My favorite is "Shotgun" which is an obvious choice since it was his biggest hit. Another great one was "What Does It Take To Win Your Love For Me."

Junior did a nice cover of "These Eyes" although I still prefer The Guess Who original. I saw an ad somewhere a few days ago promoting a Burton Cummings tour. I saw Guess Who in concert in 1971 and it was as good as any concert I ever went to. Cummings was amazing live, powerful vocals and even pulled out the flute for "Undun." All business on stage with very little banter. From what I've read he lives back in his hometown of Winnipeg and periodically shows up to perform at small local clubs. Well worth seeing if he's out your way.
