Sam Cooke "A Change is Gonna Come". Heart rending vocal...you can feel the combination of hope and hopelessness. More than any song I've ever heard this song decries the pain of racism (or any form of prejudice for that matter) from the victim's perspective...It speaks to the down-trodden and it even addresses the situational bondage of living in a culture that doesn't believe that anything can be done to enact change... Best was when they used that song in Malcolm X, one of my favorite movies of all time.

Of course. A perfect fit...I remembered Malcolm X being such a controversial figure in the white community, as was Muhammed Ali and any black man that was fighting for culture change. History of course has born these men out to be completely different from that perception in rural Maryland, where the KKK was still openly meeting and the blacks were uncomfortable in certain parts of Cecil County. At the time, even the press would put a negative spin on their stories, though...and the press we had primarily worked out of Baltimore and Philadelphia. I suppose that when people riot the implications are it's a negative thing, but then again...when that seems to be the only way to gain attention of the authorities, what else were they to do? Thankfully, there has been a lot of change since then. Sadly, there is still more to be accomplished. Hopefully, we can all do it together...

I guess maybe this has wandered a bit from the idea of music specifically for the road, but to me, music is music and can entertain anywhere...

inger working overtime to make sure there is ample music for a trip around the globe! Keep up the good work my Faces-loving friend! By the way, if you do not have the Faces "anthology" called something like "Five Guys Walk into a Bar..." I recommend it. Best part is a recording of Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagen going over a new song in a hotel room with only a guitar and piano. The next cut is the same song recorded by the full band, but the tempo and all the words have changed to become Last Orders Please (another Lane gem) which appears on "A Nod is as Good as a Wink..." Chords and phrasing are more or less the same. Piano part is oddly very similar on both. Took me awhile to catch on to the fact that they are the same song. Maybe had to read it in the liner notes.

You should have picked up on my lack musical tech when I mentioned having the Marley Sound System on blue tooth... No blue tooth is pretty advanced. I have all my songs on my phone. No CD player required.
