This seems appropriate.. It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone) It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone) It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone) I feel fine (I feel fine)… Russell is rocking out...

I like sixties era rock. Not too much recent stuff. I like fast, up tempo music.

Here’s a song that may belong here, or may belong in the political thread. Warning: The song is Easy Listening, a genre that some folks run away from.
It’s a beautifully written ballad that was performed by Neil Sedaka and dedicated to the immigration difficulties that were faced by John Lennon, though it was also written in dedication to the writer’s immigration experiences in the 1930’s.
It’s a lesson that immigration has been a hot button topic for a long time on America, and it gives a certain perspective..,
“I was a sweeter tune And there was so much room”
“The Immigrant”. Give it at least one listen, and look up the lyrics, too..,it charted #22 on the Billboard top hits chart in 1975 and peaked at #1 (for one week) on the adult alternative (then called Easy Listening).

Remembering Frank Zappa’s Mr. Green Genes. ****************************** Eat your shoes Don’t forget the strings and sox You can even eat the box You bought ‘em in You can even even the truck That brought ‘em in ******************************* This is verse two of the pleasant little three verse ditty. I was treated to the entirety of the album version, which if I recall was over 17 minutes long.
My introduction to Mr. Zappa’s music came when myself and another friend were invited to listen in with a rather peculiar high school mate who took us to the confines of his parents nicely appointed home and up to his room where he had his turntable. His name will not be mentioned so as not to reveal his identity.
He had a very 60’s drug culture appearance at that time. He was white, heavily scarred by acne and had a sizable Afro. Back in 7th grade he had been the first in the class to regularly wear bell bottoms and was a presumed pot head, later confirmed. In his junior year he decided to run for class president, but finished a distant third.
Later that same school year, he was caught en flagrant with his English Teacher in her classroom by the principal when someone reported that they were having an after school affair in that location on a regular basis.
So the student dropped out, the teacher was fired and the couple got married and left the state. Reports from a few years ago trickled back that they were still living in wedded bliss. To the best of my knowledge they continue to do so today, nearing their fiftieth anniversary.
Thank you, my unnamed friend. You’ve left me with a quick tale I can share with my friends. Life is stranger than fiction...So was Frank Zappa, though I never found anything else in his discography that I truly enjoyed, I immediately was enamored with the lyrics posted above and recognized the genius of the performer.
Every once in a great while I have to give Mr. Green Genes one more listen for old time’s sake. I think I have to reassure myself that day was reality, and not a dream. After all, until then I had no idea that you could eat the truck that brought ‘em in.

The loss of a favorite artist always leaves us wondering what they still had to say. The artist that does young is the one that leaves the most mystery behind, but even after long careers when they’re still performing. But they do leave behind the gift of past performances that we can review as frequently as we wish in these times. I know I find myself in various moods where I’ll sit and listen to Jim Croce for hours, and have become more enamored with songs that were in the deep cuts of his albums, and far more country than my usual tastes. I wonder why the happens? I think it’s because those songs seemed more personal for the performer. Not just Croce either. The other night, for a while it was Ricky Nelson, often it’s Joe Cocker. The Beatles, or a particular Beatle. The Monkees, under-rated catalogue...
