GF--guess you should have asked your doctor ahead of time about the drug they promote on TV to prevent Shingles--unless it causes insomnia, nausea, dizziness, rash, incontinence, confusion, drowsiness or sudden death. Anyway, glad you were able to get over it. Understand that it is not pleasant. Now, when does Spring Training start? I'm tired of talking about music and shingles. I want to talk about home runs and singles. And how we get rid of Ellsbury, of course. I think our chance to deal Ellsbury went in the shitter with the deals the Brewers made and all of the OFs they can move now. We are stuck with a very expensive bench player.

On the other hand, should an injury occur to Gardner or Hicks it may turn out to be a blessing...Ellsbury is a prime example of the axiom "you pay for your mistakes"...

Good list! I have a few songs by Dire Straits like Sultans of Swing and Money for Nothing but hadn't heard Down to the Waterline before. Some good guitar work by Mark Knopfler on Down to the Waterline. It's great to see they finally got inducted into the Rock N Roll HOF, long overdue. Love Knopfler. I have a good friend who is also an excellent guitarist who is convinced that Knopfler copped the riff and sound for that song from his record that came out just before that one.

Good show. Reminiscent of a combination of "City of New Orleans" and "Mr. Bojangles". Like taking those two songs and writing a sequel that adds another character. That's a compliment by the way...

Wow. I had no idea how close to the mark I was on that. Now I feel like a music expert all of a sudden. (Not really, but it was a fun article to read). Thanks for sharing that. I enjoy music on the fringes of folk and rock, but I don't really know the artists well enough to know where to go to find it unless something surfaces on the light rock charts or gets some airplay. Most of what passes for music on the radio today is making me turn the dial to off, which is a shame, because I know I'm missing some really great stuff that I could still be listening to...
So, I'm letting myself settle into old age as one of those ornery old farts that's missing music the way it used to be for the most part. Listening to the oldies. Sometimes rediscovering songs I hadn't listened to in thirty or more years. Nice to find this and Todd Snider...

Same chords as Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. Always found that kind of cool. Kind of like Zep's Achilles Last Stand & Heart's Barracuda having the same rolling bass line. Of course every Iron Maiden songs sounds like Achilles Last Stand but that's a different story.

Ever notice how the opening chords of Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" sound a lot like "Werewolves of London"???

Ever notice how the opening chords of Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" sound a lot like "Werewolves of London"??? I'm pretty sure that's intentional. Whether intentional or not, if I'm not mistaken, he paid royalties for using it--at least that's what I heard. It's also the same as the intro, more or less, to Sweet Home Alabama.

Chi, we're all watching with great anticipation as you approach your 500th post and Jeterian God status... When will he do it? Should we buy tickets for today? Or will it be tomorrow???

It would certainly make sense for the song to have ties to Sweet Home Alabama since that title is a part of the lyrics of the song...More so than Werewolves of London...
