I like "Your Hometown" even a bit better. The vocals do run a bit too "hillybilly" for my taste, but the stories are poignant... "Don't Hang Up Virginia" was pretty good, too. It reminded me a bit of what the conversation might have been like if "Sylvia's Mother" (Mrs. Avery) would have allowed her to come to the phone when Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show called... Incidentally, "Sylvia's Mother" and many other Dr. Hook songs were penned by Shel Silverstein who wrote a "A Boy Named Sue"...I once heard Silverstein perform "A Boy Named Sue" on TV. He was smart to leave most of the singing to others... Glad you enjoyed it, Inger.

Oh, I'll be back after I sneak a listen to a few more. I want to check out anything on this thread that I haven't experienced (musically). I tried a bit of the jazz, but it was just not for me...Funny, the night those songs were posted we had dinner at a Japanese restaurant in Florence, CO that featured a jazz duo...oobity, doo, doo, boo. Very talented young lady singer in a duet with a moderately talented male vocalist who did well on the keyboards...

All right, kaybli...Now it's time for the rundown...What did you listen to on the trip? What did you like, what did you not like? Is anything going to go on your regular play list that you never would have listened to if you hadn't polled the team???
Ladies and gentlemen, It's time for the "Mighty Kaseeb's Top Forty Countdown"...

Just read where our boy Tom Petty had 5 opioids in his system, two of which have no medical value. Looks like although he kicked heroine, he substituted the pills to get the same effect. Translation- he was a downer freak. Too bad. I challenge anyone to name a more influential rock singer songwriter of US origin from 1980- 2010. Damn the Torpedoes might be the best US rock album of the 1980s period. Fucking shame drugs take yet another great talent.

I also read that Petty fractured his hip, yet continued to tour which worsened the injury, thus resulting heavier use of the pain killers. I wish he would have cancelled the tour and tried to get himself better.

You take them and immediately your judgment is impaired. It is so easy to make a mistake. When I was recovering from shingles they gave me some really strong meds and I had my wife set up a system to make sure I didn't do something stupid. As soon as I could I threw out what was left.

I hate the pain meds they usually send home with you because they're such downers and make me want to sleep all the time. I hate the ones they usually won't give you because I had them only once, in the hospital and they made me feel so wonderful that I instantly understood how people get addicted and quickly...They didn't send me home on those...and I'm grateful...

Sorry you had to go through that, GF! Scary stuff. Thanks. I thought I was too young for shingles but apparently it is not uncommon for people in their 40s. For me it was stress induced, where I thought I was managing stress well but my body indicated it felt otherwise. Good learning for me, heavy price to learn it. Although some guys learn it through heart attack, so relatively speaking this wasn't as bad.

GF--guess you should have asked your doctor ahead of time about the drug they promote on TV to prevent Shingles--unless it causes insomnia, nausea, dizziness, rash, incontinence, confusion, drowsiness or sudden death. Anyway, glad you were able to get over it. Understand that it is not pleasant. Now, when does Spring Training start? I'm tired of talking about music and shingles. I want to talk about home runs and singles. And how we get rid of Ellsbury, of course.

Prevent shingles? Easy. Get the roof tinned...
Ruthie and I got our shots this past year...No one that's ever told me they had shingles has said they enjoyed it, besides at our age we have all the side effects already anyway! Haven't actually experienced the sudden death, but if I do, I'll let you all know...
