I'm not a huge fan of what they call Americana music ( a loose affiliation of alt country, singer songwriter stuff), but I do like Sturgill Simpson, Gillian Welch and Jeffrey Foucault along with Jason Isbel. I've heard Simpson before, but I'm going to have to check out the other three. Thanks Chuck.

Lol. It does surprise me how the music lives on, and how it crosses generational, cultural and ethnic boundaries... I couldn't imagine a world without music.....or baseball!

Funny thing, I remember my mother saying that she thought that the old songs she learned as a young girl, well that was real music. The stuff from the late 20's, 30's and 40's...this rock and roll stuff won't stand the test of time, it's just not as good. Well, it seems to me that the stuff from the 20's, 30's, and 40's succumbed to rock and roll, and that rock and roll has lived on. It's changed form a few times, but it's still alive. Yet, so many of the rock performers will credit performers from bygone eras for having influenced them, as well as their contemporaries. I think each generation has influenced the next, and there has been a steady progression. This generation will yet spawn another and styles that have long ago been forgotten will re-emerge as "new". It's just as we've seen a short haired generation supplanted by a longer haired generation, then back to short and again long...Whatever is different from the parental generation will always emerge as the "new" or popular trend as the children come of age and revolt on the parents ways...

I've been saying this for years. Even politically from generation to generation it seems like it happens. I think it's funny though musically how "styles" kinda get recycled

So, how much does it cost to download and own a song? 99 cents to $1.29 on Amazon per song. Spotify is a good deal. 10 bucks a month and you can stream basically any song out there. Apple Music is good too. Youtube is the best for cheapos. Or you can just download the pirated versions from any number of sites out there. Inger... I remember you on your soap box to me about "stealing" stuff on the internet. When I told you how to get on lohud for free when it turned paid and then I brought up how I haven't paid for a movie in years bc I find them free on the internet. As an ex musician I take offense to you downloading music.. Not really lol.. I do the same thing as you.. I'm just breaking your balls. Especially as it seems like you're willing to pay for music if you had the option. I'm not even sure if that was you on the box over at pinstripes plus lol. Just wanted to pull your chain if it was you.

I also think it's great that vinyl is making a come back these days. Back in high school I was into some obscure punk rock bands that only put out music on vinyl in the 80s. I really don't listen to that music much anymore so all the record I didn't sell are sitting in my garage... In a DJ storage box which hopefully is keeping them from warping. I've sold most of the expensive ones but there's still a few out there worth some loot. Problem is I don't have a record player do I can't test them out

Lol. Inger. Record player? That's so rich. You sound like my dad, and I turn 49 next month. I used to get so pissed at him calling my turntable a record player and the stylus a needle. Great memories.👍

So, I'm going on a trip during Winter Vacation and I need some new tunes for the plane ride. I thought it would be fun for some posters here to list a few of their favorite songs of all time. No just artists please, I need specific songs I can add to my collection. Thanks! Here are some random tunes I'm listening to right now to start: Fade to Black - Metallica Superstition - Stevie Wonder 7th Chamber -Wu Tang Clan True Faith - New Order Fly Like an Eagle - The Steve Miller Band Levitibus - Canibus Don't Sweat the Technique - Eric B. And Rakim Under the Bridge - Aerosmith Sweet Child O'Mine - Guns N Roses Oh My God - A Tribe Called Quest Soweto - Hieroglyphics Rebel Rebel - David Bowie Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult For Pete's Sake - Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth House of the Rising Sun - The Animals Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival What's Golden - Jurassic 5 Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry Short Change Hero - The Heavy Here you go Kaybli. Great memories.👍 Music does sound better on vinyl with it's richer sound. I know it's little inconvenient, but it's worth it if you have the patience.

For sure it does, particularly rock records, maybe because that’s what we grew up with, that warm sound you get from vinyl (even better if it goes through a tube amp receiver). A whole generation of people are now very comfortable hearing their music delivered through ITunes or satellite radio in a very compressed format though. I’m not sure most people know the difference between what the music should sound like based on what it actually sounded like when it was recorded and what they’re buying when they listen to Spotify or ITunes. And it doesn’t seem like most people care anymore so long as it is convenient to get it.

Great memories.👍 It quit working? Maybe a "tube" burned out... Smack it on the side a few times first, sometimes the tubes are just loose... If we wait a few minutes, it might come on after it "warms up"... Where's the antenna on the damned thing? No wonder you're not picking up FM... That's a really neat gramophone... And then a few years later, "look at my new hi-fi"... But, actually...it was Sierchio, of all people, that used the term record player...after he rode my ass about using "CD player"...see, just like I said, all things cycle back around...

That’s Chris Porter, a talented Austin songwriter who died in a car accident last year while out on the road. Will Johnson of another amazing band Centro-Matic, produced the record and finished it after Chris’s death. A great record.

I like "Your Hometown" even a bit better. The vocals do run a bit too "hillybilly" for my taste, but the stories are poignant..."Don't Hang Up Virginia" was pretty good, too. It reminded me a bit of what the conversation might have been like if "Sylvia's Mother" (Mrs. Avery) would have allowed her to come to the phone when Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show called...
Incidentally, "Sylvia's Mother" and many other Dr. Hook songs were penned by Shel Silverstein who wrote a "A Boy Named Sue"...
I once heard Silverstein perform "A Boy Named Sue" on TV. He was smart to leave most of the singing to others...
