Thursday, 9/3, there is a nice slate of games. It will feel good to see a more normal schedule from now on. Sports continuing to be political with the President pressuring the B10 commissioner to play football this fall. I guess that genie will never go back in the bottle.

Saddened by the COVID-19 effect on college football. More than half of LSU’s offensive line, including all five starters, have been unable to practice, being quarantined for two weeks. Ja’Marr Chase, last year’s Biletnikoff Award winner has recently opted out, as well as LSU’s starting cornerback, starting defensive end, and starting linebacker. They already had lost 14 to the draft and 6 more as undrafted free agents. In all, they have lost more than 30 players from last year’s roster, including transfers to the portal and a few seniors.

I think they will still have a god defense, and probably will be competitive, but not the Nat Championship level.

They do have that national title to fall back on and enjoy. I feel bad for the kids that got COVID-19, but this was the risk when the people that run this sport are only thinking about money.

LSU is loaded with talent at all skill positions. They have a 6’ 5” 260+ pound tight end that runs like a wide receiver with unbelievable hands - a true freshman that will start. They have four running backs, any of whom could start, and their wide receiver room is stacked, even without Chase.

Miles Brennan is the quarterback. Certainly, no one is going to replace the loss of Burrow, but Brennan actually has a stronger arm and a quicker release. He was a highly touted high school quarterback from Mississippi, where he three for over 15,000 yards and 166 touchdowns. He has put on about forty pounds since his freshman year and is now 6’4” 220 pounds (He was thin as a rail). He can sling it. He’s not quite as athletic or mobile as Burrow, but he’s not a statue either.

LSU is going to be all right, it seems. One of the better things to come out of the convoluted season is that smaller schools are getting TV money, where they might not have, if it were a normal season. I hope that continues to some extent after the bigger boys season starts.
Rumors abound that the B10 is going to revote with an October start date. Maybe. Kevin Warren has blown an otherwise promising career. Jim Delaney was such a good commissioner that the contrast is particularly striking.
There are two football games on tonight, and several tomorrow. Good watching.

Players at PSU have heart problems when they got COVID. So the conferences that are playing are risking their players health.

Players at PSU have heart problems when they got COVID. So the conferences that are playing are risking their players health. sarcasm alert. How in the world can PSU players get Covid when they aren't playing? Meaning, the Covid was always going to be present whether the players were playing or not. There is a legitimate argument that they would be safer within a sequestered environment of a team, where they had constant medical supervision. Not playing did nothing to make players safer.

Its an argument that
1) Covid is dangerous for young people which some who support playing deny 2) that no student should be at the university period which those who support playing likely deny as well (say President Trump)
