As Diaz hits that double, I get this unconfirmed feeling that the Rays always seem to get so many doubles and triples. The players are young and fast, most are trained to take pitches until they see something they can square up, but they’re not swinging from the heels. They’re looking for contact and holes in the defense.
We don’t have much of that. We have more creaky, injury prone veterans with that impressive power. Not looking for a hole in the defense. Not looking to use their legs to grab an extra base.
It’s about the approach, but it’s a product of the budget, too...
