We have done the 9/11 game thread for him (a poster of a previous board many of us were on) since the WTC attack. I am not sure if we are this year or if there is a game on that day.

There is a game Friday. We'll make this the game thread for that game. RIP Dennis Gomes.

I still remember the grief on that board when he died. One of the few times I openly cried.

amazing. Wonder how many were in this community that are still here. Not a lot. The demise of Scout.com and the emergence of Twitter took care of that.

I wanted to move this to the top so it does not get forgotten tomorrow. It is the game thread for the Friday game.

Thanks inger. In this case I am an old guy who can remembers trane posting. I have done this for a long time.
My concerns about 'forgetting' is that in the past some did not realize it was a game thread. Just an honoring of trane. Or anyhow that is my memory.

A link to his obituary. www.legacy.com/sept11/story.aspx?personid=107485 Thanks for reminding us, Russ. We need to keep this tradition in tact. I miss the old days and so many former posters. The Internet in the mid-90s was the Wild West, totally free and uninhibited. So many true baseball fans finding other enthusiasts and Pinstriped brethren online. Poring through The Baseball Digest to bolster our points and arguments. Before I became accustomed to posting on baseball threads and forums, just about everything I wrote was either a narrative or a baseball term paper. Hours and hours spent talking baseball. The loss of Trane was a tragedy in every sense of the word.

I believe that I was on scout at the time, but in 2001, I had moved to Colorado over a year prior but was having to commute 1.5-2.5 hours to work on a daily basis and was working in bizarre circumstances as I was in a merged at work. I can’t say that I recall Trane. Perhaps I was still in the old Prodigy baseball forums. I had started on them atvabout the time Don Mattingly’s career started to decline due to his back injury. Hmm. That makes sense. I think I got hooked up with Pinstripes in 2005.
Either way, I recall seeing the image of the towers on the computer at work and thinking they were promoting a movie. When I found out it was real, I went to the TV set in the break room and just watched for hours. I didn’t give a crap about anything else. Fire me. What ever. I couldn’t even understand customers calling us for plants, or how the sales people focused to talk to them. Why weren’t we closed? I wanted everything to stop so I could go home.
If I had been here, I’m sure Trane’s death would have grabbed me the same way. As it is, I certainly respect and understand why we do this small gesture every year...

I remember only a few of his posts (I ran a dead game thread then and he made a comment on it for instance). But he made an impression because I was really upset with his loss.

I remember only a few of his posts (I ran a dead game thread then and he made a comment on it for instance). But he made an impression because I was really upset with his loss. When you think about it, it could have been any one of us. He had a job he went to every day. A terrorist group decided to destroy the building he worked in. For the most part, they didn’t care that he was there. They just wanted a spectacle with a death toll. If it had happened that they wanted to land on a 60 acre greenhouse in Denver, CO, that’s where I was... it wasn’t what they wanted. It could have been the tech center in Denver. I was a couple miles north of that... We were all victims that day. We said we’d live better, love harder. Learn to get along with each other. Look where we are nine years later. Got to break that off here, starting to cross a border I shouldn’t cross...
