I'm not sure how much the starting pitching can be blamed. Cole gave up 1 run and 1 hit. Montgomery did what they needed. Cole won the first game. If you want to blame anyone Tanaka didn't come out strong but it's really more of the bs of game 2 where they had the best chance of winning outside of tonight. The offense even in losses most of the season didn't just score a run and nothing else so it was weird to see them not score past the 1 tonight. U cant tell me you wouldn't rather of had Seve and Germain over Happ, Montgomery and the kid? The same Severino who has been lit up in every playoff start he's made?

Yeah I agree. We would have just lost later. I don't know how you can say that. The game was going to be won by the team that hit the next HR, our pitcher blinked first. Like I said earlier, with Sanchez behind the plate, the Rays can sit fastball. And, they did. A 99 mph fastball.

Every pitcher the Rays used in this game was elite, that's a big reason why they had the best record in the AL. And, they had more injuries to their bullpen than we did! It’s amazing the bullpen they have. It really is. When you see teams around the league, like the Phillies have their season ruined by a bad bullpen, it's amazing how deep the Rays pen is. And most of those guys are castaways from other organizations and none of them are making big time money. It's impressive but tough to see unleashed against your time so often.

I don't want players like German period. He cost us too much by his inability to control his behavior. No off the field surprises

It's just annoying you have it all set up with a depleted Astros team waiting if you win and your opposition tonight only scoring 2 runs total and you can't get it done. This was prob their best shot at the World Series in a while if they had won this. The Twins and A's probably though that way about the Astros but Houston's hitters are on fire right now and their bullpen is good, although the Ray's pitching staff will be a big challenge for them. Outside of the twins and a's being yearly playoff chokers the one big difference this year is the Astros didn't have the multiple aces waiting.

Sucks losing winnable series. That game 2 is going to sting for a while.

No off the field surprises Its not a matter of if you want him, its if he would have stayed straight would he have been a much better option. Same with Seve. 2019 Seve pitched well in the post even though he lost the game. 2 runs in 8.

Sometimes you don't lose the other team wins. Tampa was a very good team. Probably better than us after all the injuries to Yankee starters. We did well to get this far.
Still hurts like heck.

Maybe someday Sanchez turns it around with the bat, but I don't want him on the Yankees anymore, he's just too weak defensively. I'd try to trade him and if that doesn't work, just non-tender him. Look at most of the teams that end up in the world series, most of them have weak hitting catcher that are great behind the plate and take pride in leading the pitching staff. Just use Higgy and another good defensive catcher as his teammate for 2021.

There was some serious gas being thrown in this game:

Kay is making a good point that MLB should have been upfront more about how the post season would be in a bubble with no off days they didn't give that announcement till post trade deadline.
One thing the Yankees would have had against them had they advanced is Cole wouldn't be able to start till game 4.
Boone tried to play the game 2 thing down but it makes no sense to me that you had 5 legit starters and they had to pull what they did in that game with 2 of them.
