The Rays also declined Zunino's option. What's it say that they weren't willing to commit 15 million for one more year of Morton? That's not a good sign. It’s the end of their 60 game dynasty. [img class="smile" src="//storage.proboards.com/6828121/images/YNYHoCFKqruGiGxicSWF.gif" alt=" "] LOL

Gardner will probably be back on a lesser deal. Too bad Tauchman showed nothing with the bat, because he would make a good back up OF, since he can play all three OF positions well, but he needs to hit better than he did 2020. I’ve certainly wondered if his initial success was due to the lively baseball and a bit of luck. I've thought the same thing about Tauchman. He was so bad this year on fastballs, that it sure seems like he was product of 2019's juiced ball.

He was so bad this year on fastballs, that it sure seems like he was product of 2019's juiced ball. OR: He only had 111 plate appearances. He still fielded well, as expected, posted a .342 OBP, and led the team in stolen bases with 6 in 6 tries. There were quite a few times he might have gotten a chance to play early in the season when Gardner was slumping. More at bats may have gotten the power going in his bat. The only thing missing in his game was his power. He actually improved his contact rate and his walk rate. All in all, we would have liked to have seen a few HRs, but he’s a back up. We should have lower expectations of consistency...

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Steve Cohen's Mets ownership bid has been approved by the Major League Baseball owners.Reports surfaced of New York major Bill de Blasio trying to put the kibosh on the deal, but de Blasio has since tweeted out that he has no objections. Cohen paid $2.475 billion for controlling interest of the Mets and becomes the richest owner in baseball with an estimated net worth of about $14.5 billion. Obviously, the expectation is that he will be ready to spend much more willingly than the Wilpons were, even as we enter an uncertain offseason.
I was hoping he wouldn't be approved. Mets might throw DJ LeMahieu a large deal now.

Have the Yankees ever lost their own free agent player they coveted to the Mets? I suppose the Mets could drive up the cost nevertheless.

Have the Yankees ever lost a player in free agency that they really wanted back? I guess we could make a case for Cano, but the Yanks were never going to give him a ten year contract. Too bad they ended up signing Ellsbury instead.

Zips projections for LeMahieu :
Okay, I tried to copy and paste this and there was an explosion of numerals.
So basically, it’s:
2021, .291, 16 Hr 86 Rbi 2022, .287 14 Hr 80 Rbi
Not bad for a second baseman. Since his 2020 projection was for a .294 average, I think we can be allowed to be greedy and hope for more. The biggest problem is that he’s likely to get way more years than what is logical...
