Hitters are a rare breed these days. More are “sluggers” than hitters... I wonder if there's a study out there that shows when wins more post games: The slugger that uppercuts everything and does hit with power but also strikes out a lot and draws walks or the hitter, like D.J. that hits line drives everywhere and seems to have the same quality at bat all the time. I don’t know of a study, but my belief is that it’s situational. That’s what we’ve lost. We’ve lost the ability to scale the at bat the situation. Part of that is also because of the shift. If you can’t hit the ball through the defense, got it over the wall. Well, there IS another way. Learn to punch the ball the other way. I will always believe in hitting the ball hard. I always tried to hit the ball as hard as I could. I did it by barreling the ball. I felt intentionally swinging upward resulted in high fly balls that were caught vs. hitting a long line drive with a level swing. Just do what makes hits and the home runs will come. Maybe we need more Coors Field dimensions so the ball doesn’t get over the wall so easy. The players can’t get pumped up much more than they are.

LeMahieu has been in the league long enough that he’s not fooling anybody. If there was a book on getting him out, we’d have seen it by now. Indeed, he is getting better, and his level swing and ability to hit to the opposite field likely won’t deteriorate anytime soon. He’s the Yankees’ best and most reliable hitter and he can play three infield positions. He deserves 5 years and 100 million. If the Yankees weren’t bogged down with Stanton’s contract, I doubt there’d be much hesitation. Get it done. Too bad we don’t have a legitimate lead off hitter, because LeMahieu should be batting third in the lineup and vying for the RBI crown. I mean Hicks has done it before and still has a relatively high OBP that could work in that spot still.

I doesn’t matter how the lead of man reaches base. I hate seeing DJ’s hits wasted...

As rizzutto said "He’s the Yankees’ best and most reliable hitter" isn't that who is supposed to hit third? He doesn’t have the power that peak years Mattingly had, but his controlled aggression as a hitter reminds me of Donnie. Work the count, but don’t lay back looking for walks. Wait for a pitch to drive...

The White Sox land Lance Lynn. They're going for it on the South Side of Chicago.

With Yankees’ pursuit of starting pitching yet to begin, even a Masahiro Tanaka return seems in doubtThe Yankees are barely engaged in this market right now

I would have resigned Lynn back when we had him, but now? Too late. The tires could go flat anytime on that big truck...
