Schwarber gets a low one year deal from the Nats. The money is not flowing in MLB free agency. Really? I thought that's pretty rich for a guy who just hit .188/.308/.393, though it was in a short fluky season (224 PAs). I guess it depends on how much stock you put into the 60 game 2020 corona virus season. So many players struggled this past season, it's hard for me to use 2020 as a to evaluate some of these players. I prefer to go back to 2019 & 2018.

Wow, the Padres are serious about locking up their young star, Tatis.

I can see your take too, because Schwarber is one dimensional and it's unsure of the NL will have the DH this season.

Yea I was never a big fan of Schwarber but his stats were actually better than I recalled in 2018 and 2019. Schwarber is your typical, low-average, modern-day slugger and hits from the left side. Defensively, he was a natural DH playing in the National League. To his credit, he slimmed down in attempt to improve as an outfielder.

He’s not gonna win a batting title any time soon, thats for sure. I’m not a fan.

I should be clear, I never wanted Schwarber on the Yankees, because he doesn't fit their roster, but I think at 10 million, he's a bargain for other teams. The Cubs could have had him back for 2021 at 7 million, it really surprised me that they let him go.

DJ LeMahieu engaging other teams in free agency with Yankees slow to meet his price
A two-time batting champ and the New York Yankees’ best player for two seasons running, LeMahieu, according to a source close to his family, has become dismayed by the slow-play tactics of the Yankees, along with other clubs. Teams that have engaged with the LeMahieu camp say LeMahieu expects more than Josh Donaldson’s four-year, $92 million deal with the Minnesota Twins and at least on par with J.D. Martinez’s five years and $110 million with the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees, LeMahieu’s preferred club after two successful seasons in the Bronx, have not met those terms. The 32-year-old LeMahieu has, therefore, asked his representatives to re-engage with teams that have previously shown the most interest, the source said, among them the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets, and to reconnect with teams that reached out early in the free agent period, including the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Red Sox and others. LeMahieu expects to meet virtually with several teams this week, according to the source, those teams seeking to fill holes at second or third base.

Many guys with LeMahieu’s personality (no nonsense/what you see is what you get) are not going to play chicken. If someone meets their asking price, they’d prefer to get settled as quickly as possible. If I were the Mets, I’d wrap him up, especially since Cano is suspended for the entire year for PEDs. In that case, Tyler Wade just may get an extended look at shortstop with Torres moving back to second base.

I still think what is holding most of these teams up on DJLM is there's no guarantee he has the same production on other teams. His numbers are definitely helped by playing so many games in Yankee Stadium. I mean he was available to everyone 2 years ago in non covid world and only was able to get 2 years 24 million from the Yankees. That was coming off a gold glove .276 15 hr season. However, before he went to the Yankees he had never even placed in the top 10 in MVP voting, never won a silver slugger award, and only had an OPS over .783 once. Nor did he hit over .222 in any playoff series.
With the Yankees he has two top 4 MVP finishes, a batting title and 2 seasons of OPS Of .893 and 1.011 and multiple .300 or better playoff series averages.
So to other teams is this a 22 million a year or more player? I think that's the hold up here and the Yankees know this. To them of course he's worth that money, but are they basically bidding against themselves because no other team is likely to give him 22 million a year or more?
No offense to DJLM he's a great player, but Donaldson has an MVP award and multiple 30 hr seasons while having over a 900 OPS 5 times in his career. JD martinez has even more than that.
So I guess that is the Yankees dilemma here. Plus I think the biggest contract given so far to anyone has been about 10 million a year?
