I think DJ is as good as gone, folks. In about 4 years, we’ll probably be glad. Maybe even three. See ya’ DJ. We can with ya, we can win without ya’... I think it sets this team back short term if he doesn't come back. This team has the talent to win now and not having him back doesn't help that all.

LeMahieu reportedly is after a five-year contract worth about $110 million, while the Yankees’ offer is believed to be for four years and $84 million.
The difference is just the extra year. Make it an option year and get this done!

The teams seem to be close enough on the yearly costs of the contract.

As I pointed out last night not one player has gotten over 10 mil a year so if you have 21 mil a year on the table why would you not take it seeing the market is terrible right now.

It would be nice to know what position he’ll be playing for his peace of mind...

Every day we don’t signed DJ the odds of him coming back are lower. I’m figuring that he’s basically gone. He probably should have tested the market earlier.
The market is so far saying that no one is getting $20M this winter. Bauer might go back to signing for one year... with hopes that next year is a better environment for free agency...

Sadly, while we’ve admired DJ’s serious mind set for a couple seasons, we also see that he’s about as greedy as any one else when you get down to his roots... Both sides are ignorant of the can’t figure out that year 5 could be a mutual option...

Both sides are ignorant of the can’t figure out that year 5 could be a mutual option... He’s not greedy. I predicted 5 years and 100 million months ago and listed some of the players (not on LeMahieu’s level) who had similar deals. This is who the Yankees are now and have been for the last seven or eight years - since Hal, essentially. They will over pay for - seemingly - big names (Cole, Stanton, Tulowitzki, Ellsbury, McCann, Youkilis, Holliday, Beltran), fooling the casual fan, then fill areas of need by trying to find a pony in a pile of horse-shit. Sometimes, they are successful (Gregorius, Voit, Urshela), but mostly it’s swing and a lot of strikeouts and slow rollers (Lyle Overbay, Chris Stewart, Vernon Wells, Travis Hafner, Reid Brignac, Mark Reynolds, Jayson Nix, Brian Roberts, Stephen Drew, Kelly Johnson, Brandon Drury, Dustin Ackley, Chris Young, Brenden Ryan, Chris Carter, Neil Walker, Kendrys Morales, etc. Again, we will spend more trying to replace LeMahieu, than just paying for an extra year, and we will not get equal value. And, we will still outspend everyone. Yet, there has been only one World Series appearance in the last 20 years and none since George died in 2010.
