Red Sox sign Marwin Gonzalez. So Marwin Gonzales confuses me. He was a utility player who was considered under rated until became a regular player that didn’t show quite enough bat to remain a regular, which made me consider the he might be over rated. He plays a lot of positions, so does that mean he’s good enough to play all of those position well enough be able to play any position he wants to, or is it that he can’t play any position so they can keep his “okay” bat in the line up. Is he a Swiss Army knife or a blow out patch? He hit .211 last season, but I think he’s better than that. My point is that I’m glad the Yankees didn’t get him, because I don’t want to have to think that hard about our players... .211 is 64 points higher than Gary Sanchez, who can marginally play one position by leading the league in errors and passed balls...again. Well, I don’t believe Marwin Gonzales can catch, though.

The big deals are rolling in now. His seventh MLB team. Becoming a go to guy for restaurant recommendations around the league.

Yankees sign Jay Bruce to a minor league contract. Some of these veteran players are feeling the covid squeeze in the market. He couldn't even land a MLB contract.

In case of lefty with occasional power, break glass. It’s been since 2018 that Bruce has posted an OBP above .300. But, he’s still relatively young, about to turn 34.

I’d take Gardner AND Tauchman ahead of Bruce. I’m hoping that the Yanks strategy is to see how Tauchman looks this spring and have Bruce as a fall-back option. Tauchman may have an option left, though, which could give Bruce first shot at the MLB job, with Tauchman in AAA...

Tauchman needs to really improve the .305 SLG he put up in 2020 if he wants to stay in the major leagues. He gives you good defense at all three OF spots and he can run, but he had no power at all last season.

Hopefully, Tauchman was not a different hitter in 2019 solely due to the livelier baseball, and that was the largest sample size he’s ever had in the majors. It would be nice to have at least some semblance of pop from a lefty off the bench.
