I would have challenged her to a game of Antidisestablishmentarianism, just to test her endurance... No, she just would have won by a wider margin. I believe it...

Well it sounds like you did enough collateral damage to be effective on the court, Inger. My mother was an outstanding basketball player. First-team all-state in an era when the girls' game was much different than it is today. Back then there wasn't much in the way of opportunities in college basketball for girls, so she was limited to college intramural or club play in college. It was embarrassing how my mother could stomp me and my friends in backyard games of horse. They laughed at her two-handed set shots until she would drill them from all over the court. And then make us a nice lunch afterward just to show off. Reminds me of the Leave It To Beaver episode where Ward dominates Wally and his friends with an array of hook shots and set shots. Your mother sounds like a great sport. I know at one time the girls’ played a half court game. And, there were laces on the ball. It’s amazing how those long ago fundamentals stayed with those of that generation even later in life. Leave It To Beaver references are always welcome. And yes, the girls game was half court, at least at the high school level, until the late 1960s. The guards couldn't go into the front court and the forwards couldn't go into the backcourt. You could only dribble like once or twice and then had to pass it. Stupid rules. My mother was naturally a forward --tall for her day at 5'9" -- so she got plenty of practice shooting.

Sitting across from John Wooden would be a lifetime highlight for anybody, Rizz. Maybe the greatest coach of any sport anywhere anytime. A great man. And, I sat directly across from him. He actually started the conversation with me (I was a young guy, quite awestruck, and just trying to keep the peas on my fork). The most unassuming and kindest person I have ever met. Spoke to me like we were equals, asking questions and my opinion about basketball and coaching. He had the mind of a philosopher and was a true teacher. A gentle, thoughtful soul. Basketball was not the destination to him, merely a vehicle.

Basketball was not the destination to him, merely a vehicle. He lived in the same small apartment near the UCLA campus in Westwood from 1949 until his death many years later. In the HOF as both coach and player. Amazing how he could get cooperation and earn the respect of such large egos as Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

If we don't have anyone in the minors who can play 2d base and hit over .125 or a LF or CF who can hit over .170, we're gonna be bad for a long time. This might be the worst hitting Yankee team in my lifetime. And that covers a fair amount of ground.

I am told my mother was also tall, around 5’9” or 5’10”. She died when I was two years old. My aunt who lived near Beaumont was her only sister. My Uncle John was introduced to my Aunt Helen by my mother, who met my uncle when they both attended what is now Lamar University.

lol, my son just said "Chad Green's arm is going to fall off before the All Star Break". Lol, the inger sarcastic influence is permeating the youth of Chicago... Great minds thinking alike.

He will definitely hit balls over the fence while hitting no worse for an average.
