I don’t buy this stuff they’re shoveling about pitching being so much better than ten years ago or in the past. Hitters swinging from their butts, having no two-strike approach, and losing the shame of striking out are perfectly reasonable explanations for the degradation of hitting and batting average. Also, a generation of hitters have been indoctrinated that batting average is meaningless and slugging and launch angle should be the focus. You nailed it.

Worthless at bat by Odor as he doesn't advance Geo to third.

I don't buy that either espcially with less and less dominant starters.

Is Andujar still with the Yanks somewhere? Think he could hit .230 which would make him about the 3d or 4th best hitter in the line-up? Injured but almost back. Prob takes Bruce's spot I'm guessing.

I didn’t know Bruce was from Beaumont, Texas. My favorite aunt and uncle lived in nearby Nederland for about 60 years. During college, I took off a year to work near Beaumont at a company that made heat exchangers. The pro golfer Bruce Leitzke once worked there before making it on tour. While there, I joined their company softball team and played in the industrial league. Great bunch of guys. There was a fantastic hamburger joint that we always frequented before or after games...something like Novrozsky’s. I learned from Topps baseball cards that Frank Robinson was born in Beaumont. Not imparted by Topps, but The Big Bopper was also from Beaumont, as were the amazing Winter brothers Johnny and Edgar. My Uncle John used to tell me stories of Babe Didrikson Zaharias, calling her the greatest female athlete ever. There is a statue and commemorative site in Beaumont, right off of Interstate 10.

To me it’s obvious that when you expand the bullpen to eight relievers, you’ve got some very hittable pitchers in that pen. At least one maybe two of them belong in the minors and another one might be a marginal MLB pitcher. The hitters approach is indeed BS... look at Frazier, pulling the ball, swing hard as he can. And as expected... leaves Urshela at second base hitting in front of him...

Concur on Babe DZ. I have some vague recollection that she actually made the cut at a men's PGA event, the only woman to ever do so.

There's definitely more hard throwers today than in the past, but you're right, that doesn't mean they are better pitchers.

Like it's insane how an entire team is all struggling at the same exact time.

Give credit to Higgy for working that walk thus allowing the best hitter on the team a chance to hit with a runner in scoring position.
