Ugh, Deivi is going backwards. Alas, so is Admiral Nelson. Garcia cannot afford to lose command because he does not have the velocity or spin rate to be effectively wild in the zone.

Tampa Tarpons are absolutely killing the ball with 40 runs in the first three games. Nice start for last years third round pick.
#Yankees third-round pick Trevor Hauver has been absolutely unstoppable through his first three games with the @tampatarpons ...
Hauver is hitting .800 (8-for-10) with 4 HR, 9 RBI, 6 R, 6 BB and a 2.924 OPS

Poor Gittens, he just can't a shoot in the bigs. It has to stink when you’re a talented player that seems to be on the fringes and then a MLB guy shows up on rehab and takes your playing time. It has to run through your mind that you COULD have been called up to replace HIM on the MLB roster... but you weren’t. Then you see the guy that IS replacing him batting .100, and you feel a little tug at your heart, knowing you may never get that chance. Yeah. I agree. Poor Gittens. In danger of being forgotten...

The Rule V draft was created for guys like Gittens, but no one selected him. The rule was indeed created with the Gittens types in mind. The problem is that power-hitting first basemen / DH types are so plentiful that it seems every organization had a crop of their own. Intended or not by rule, these types are very rarely selected as teams go for more versatile types that they can more easily hide at the back end of their roster, or pitchers that they can haul out only in blowouts. I actually got that lesson from Patrick Teale in person the day I attended a game in Aberdeen, MD. to watch the Staten Island Yankees play. The Yanks had a kid that was playing first base that day who plowed about a 430- foot HR. Pat lord or less shrugged it off and told me he wasn’t even a marginal prospect. That turned out to be true, as he was done with baseball a couple years later... I’m trying to remember that kids name... and can’t... which I guess is exactly the point. Something... Butler?...
