Cole's last two starts: KC: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, TOR: 8 IP, 4 H, 2 R I think both those starts were without the sticky stuff. Cole today, just doesn't have any command against a great hitting team. I agree. I was just pointing out the 200+rpm difference in his fastball. That's got to make a difference in his effectiveness. It definitely will not allow Cole to get away as easily from poor location.

I hate to admit it, but Cora’s teams play hard, aggressive baseball. He’s just far and away - light years - better of a manager than Boone. My wonder is, Boone managed those 2018 and 2019 clubs and no way in heck did they play this poorly fundamentally. They won 100 games both years, what changed? Did the players just start tuning out? Baseball is so different than other sports as far as coaching, so it's hard to judge but this aint pretty on anyone, Hal, Cashman, Boone or the players. Exactly on the money, maize.

Notice that anytime the camera shows Cora, he’s out in front of the dugout, right on top of the action. Conversely, when something happens that upsets Boone, he has to step out of the shadows. The style difference seems to be reflected in that…

It does seem like his strikeouts are down, which is probably due to the lack of sticky stuff, but if Cole puts the ball where he wants to, he'll be successful.

You can cheat and still be a good manager. This is pretty much the same group that finished last in 2020. Behind Baltimore. The approach is totally different this year. More aggressive, a more confident look. Boston has scads of holes, especially on defense. But they clearly ratchet up their game against the Yankees. The Yankees look to me like a passive, tentative team, especially when they play Boston or Tampa Bay.

Cole finds command of his slider and all of sudden he's unhittable again.

He cheated for years for two different cheating squads who beat us in the playoffs, and he doesn't deserve to have a job in the league.

I ran a little 5K yesterday morning and then it rained all day, so today was yard work day. Nice! A "little 5k", lol.
I joined a gym recently though! First time in like 15 years!
Good luck at the gym! lol, we should start a workout thread to give everyone some motivation.

Just skimming the rest of the thread to see what I missed. Too many good posts to quote so ill just summarize.
Balls/Strikes: If we are going to display a box on the screen why are these calls so bad? So of them are so far out of the zone it is ridicolous. If we have visual evidence like this it should be reviewable. This has been a huge problem for like 3 years now and it seems to be getting worse.
Replay: Why are the same guidelines not always used? I thought it has to be indisputable evidence? I also thought the ball only has to be in the glove to count not have to hit the back of the glove? It seems like these things are being forgotten.
Here is the thing though the Yankees can sit there and bark from the bench about how unfair the above two things are and they are right, but if there is not going to be any changes they are going to have to swing at some of these "strike" pitches and try to put them in play. I've lost count at how many called strike 3's they have looked at this year. The thing is the ball might not go that far, but we see the Red Sox putting them in play and getting infield hits so the Yankees to adjust to this terrible strike zone.
Team performance: We can sit here and say the Yankees only beat up on bad teams, but that isn't true. outside of their division the yankees don't have a losing record against any team, but the two games in philly. They have winning records against: CHW, CLE, HOU, KCR, MIN, OAK, TEX, WSH multiple of those teams are in first place or close to it.. They are 3-3 vs Detroit, but I think thats cause they basically checked out that series because of the week they had coming ahead. Also 1-1 vs ATL. Boston and Tampa don't have winning records against Houston, Oak, or CHW. The problem is the division play.
5-8 vs Tampa 0-5 vs Boston 6-6 vs Toronto 6-4 vs Baltimore
Whats crazy here is if you subtract the head to head records the Yankees are playing vs each of the top 3 teams the Yankees about the same record as these teams.
Tampa is 39-26 against everyone else. Yankees 35-28. Boston is 41-31 against everyone else. Yankees 40-31. Toronto is 33-30 against everyone else. Yankees 34-30.
So I feel the Yankees if they can just stop making stupid plays and just a little better in their division could honestly run away with this, because they are actually beating these top AL teams while the Rays and Red sox are not. Yet here we are losing to a pitcher they've seen a combined 150 ABS in their careers and have a slash line of .272/.358/.513/.872.
