The tarzan of the novels was a cultured English lord who spoke many languages fluently (ignoring lion and elephant which he was also fluent in or Martian).
The old movies had little to do with the tarzan ERB created.

The old movies had little to do with the tarzan ERB created. And later, when Lord of Greystoke was made many people eschewed it because they couldn’t apprehend an intellectual Tarzan. People want what they want. After being conditioned by a chintzy low budget TV show, no one wanted culture. I always found it illogical that a man in Tarzan’s position on the show would choose to name his chimpanzee “Cheetah”…Especially shen he called his own son “Boy”…

That was the bad thirties movies. What is amusing is that in the novels Jane was from Baltimore (ERB was American). But she got transformed somewhere into an Englishwoman. I guess that was seen as more classy.
The Ron Ely movies were actually pretty good but they got forgotten.

They called him the Earl of Greystoke although he was actually a Viscount (at title few Americans know). We could use Tarzan on the Yankees. If nothing else he could get some elephants and lions to get rid of Fenway...hit a lot of inside the park home runs as well. Probably be useful in fight on the field as well....

This is where Quintana ended up? In the Angels bullpen? The Cubs traded Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease for Quintana.
