Before this game Higgy had a 68 OPS+ so I wouldn't say he's even close to Gary offensively. If you want to use OPS+ as a weapon, I can’t fight you at 113-68. The OBP is the worst of Higgy’s products at .248. That’s simply disgusting. Higgy by the way has hit into 3 DPs compared to Gary’s miserable 11… But I prefer to look at the entire player. If there was a combined offensive/defensive measured number, it would not be 113-68. If I wanted to assign a number to these two Yankee catchers on defense that I felt represented them vs. their peers in the AL, Ian’s make them worth similar points (100 being average), I’d grade Higashioka at about 92. Gary? Maybe 82. Add those to the OPS number and we see Higgy at 160 vs. Gary at 195. The gap is closed a bit. Looking at offense only, then Higgy is only about 60% of Gary. Combined he becomes more like 82% of Gary. Of course my numbers required a great deal of creativity, but I think they’re close enough to at least be interesting. If we could measure base running as part of offense, Higgy would pick up another point or two (mostly because Gary is horrendous), but if we graded BA more honestly, he’d likely lose those points… No, I mostly agree with you. I wish there was a way to quantify catcher's game calling.

I messaged him. I know he's going through some things. I hope he's doing okay. Thanks for the word, Kaybli. Like you, I hope he's doing okay. We miss him around here.

Excellent job by Peralta! Boone’s pet is starting to prove very useful. The Yankees seem to really be buying into pitchers that achieve movement with requiring a high spin rate. Peralta is a change up artist who probably has one of the five best change ups in the game. The splitter is a low spin pitch of course, and we’re seeing a few of those creeping into our arsenals. It’s interesting how fast this game can evolve with a little tweak of the rules…

Britton turns a routine groundout into a base hit. Just stay out of the way.

Britton continues to be a joke. I’ll defend him to an extent. Injury returns aren’t always easy. He’s always had a lot of movement on his pitches anc had always relied on batters swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. I hope he gets straightened out before the post season…we could use him, especially with Chapman questionable..
