Seems a cumbersome moniker… Something I always liked about Hayes was that he ran for office stating beforehand that he would only serve one term. We could use a few more like that. Yeah, he was a bit hands-off on Reconstruction issues. Kind of let everything slide. But generally inoffensive and he had a great Smith Brothers beard. My main complaint was his wife, Lemonade Lucy, who would not allow alcohol to be served at White House receptions. |
