Sigh, what are they doing to this great game? The regular season is going to become meaningless, like the NBA & NHL. While I agree in principal with your “What are they doing to this great game”, I personally suggested this idea on this very forum in 2020 when the playoffs were expanded. My thinking was that division winners could be rewarded for having won the division by giving them a one game lead to start a short series versus a wild card winning team. I never thought of the childish term “ghost win”, and I’m glad that term did not originate in my brain. I’d be ashamed if it had. If you view it this way, I think it differentiates MLB from Hockey and Basketball by giving the division winners an advantage… It's just like the NBA & NHL where every team that sniffs .500 will make the playoffs. We're going to see even more game management but winning in the regular season isn't as important as it was once was because it's so easy to make the post season. Speaking of "ghosts", I wonder if the league will keep their ghost runner rules for extra innings? I haven't heard anything new about that one.

I think they stated clearly that the rule was in place only because of the COVID situation. The question is when, if ever, that situation ends. Omnicron is still considered to be COVID, right? Despite the fact that I haven’t heard the term common cold in a couple of years and have barely heard the term “flu” used… 🤪

The clock is ticking but the owners don't seem to care.

The clock is ticking but the owners don't seem to care. Do the players? Sacrificing a month of pay will be huge for the younger players. Many of the more established stars will enjoy the holiday. I think I’m the player’s view it would still be in their best interests to play the long game to win long term concessions…

That ain't living check to check. The guys who are driving Uber and Lyft in their spare time, saving meal money for other purchases, and living eight to a house are in the minor leagues. Those guys have my greatest respect, and they deserve a living wage.

Plus the guys that maybe got called up late last season and got a nice check for 6 or 8 or 20 games, who might have made foolish purchases of youthful lunacy of assuming they’d made the team in 2022. I didn’t make that abundantly clear, obviously… I swear, I don’t know why you can’t read my mind better after all these years… 🤓

No excuse to not get a deal done now, since the owners will get their 14 team playoffs. Under these rules, the 82-80 Phillies would have made the playoffs last season. The A's would have been the only team with a winning record to not make it.
