My all-time favorite players are Thurman Munson, Donny Mattingly, and Derek Jeter. In that order. That’s a solid trio. Over that time frame, they're my favorites too, maybe in a slightly revised order (but not enough to matter) and squeezing Mo in there somewhere. Of course I am required by law to always have Mantle and Ford at 1 and 1A, but that's a function of age, like The Beatles always at the top of my music pile. I separate pitchers and players, since I grew up with the DH.

Mattingly Nettles Jeter Those are my top 3, there's about 100 players tied for 4th, I've liked a lot of Yankees over the years. Oh yeah, it's all just a matter of slight degrees. I root for anyone wearing the Pinstripes, although in a small number of cases (A-Rod) it felt a little forced.

I had to investigate, and another player who turned 75 today is Don Money, a pretty fair third baseman for a long time with the Phillies, Pirates and Brewers. Amazingly he's still in the game as a player development official with Milwaukee. Great glove man. I've some Don Money ballcards, all from the Brewers. A name from the past!

He didn’t have enough bat to excite people, so he didn’t get credit for how good he was with the glove. Very sure-handed…

Stockholm syndrome never overtook me, and neither sadism nor masochism ever appealed to me. A-Rod was poison, rather than an acquired taste.

I heard Minaya was coming in and I thought when did the Twins acquire Sean Manaea and why is he pitching out of the bullpen?

Damn. That was a pitch to smash Stanton. But he strikes out to end the top of the inning.

Definitely the first member of the All-Economy team with Norm Cash, Ernie Banks, and Chris Sale.

I was a fan of A-Rod before the revelations His denigration of Jeter in the press - not having to lead, like he did - put him off for me. In Texas, I had no doubt that he was on the juice.
