It used to be Wildwood or Seaside Heights when I was young. Does Atlantic City count? I used to go there all the time back when we all played Texas Hold Em and counted cards playing blackjack. Now its Asbury Park because a good friend of mine lives there.
Have you been to any of those places? Of course of you have, who am I asking? We always went into Wildwood from Cape May when we were kids. The boardwalk there was much more exciting than anything in sedate old Cape May. Great rides that I still remember fondly. Junk food Heaven-- James's Salt Water Taffy, Mac's Pizza, Kohl's Soft Serve, cotton candy, fudge-- everything! Atlantic City was in a bad way when I was a kid, pre-casino. My grandparents ALWAYS went to the Miss America Pageant. LOL. They took it very seriously. I like Ocean City. More under control than Wildwood. But for sure, Avalon, Sea Isle City, Stone Harbor, Margate, Brigantine-- I've spent a lot of time in all of them. I've been to Asbury Park, but it was a little far north for us. We used to take deep sea fishing boats out of Point Pleasant. Any place on the water works for me! One of my favorite episodes of "The Blacklist" was entitled Cape May.

Well, this stinks. I took off work early to come home to watch the Yankee game. As Paul Harvey would say, "And, now, you know the rest of the story."
Lousy way to spend my birthday. And, I just found out one of the people I really enjoy working with has been let go. She'll land on her feet though: She's bilingual, Hispanic, and has her doctorate. She was beloved by her staff, students, and parents. Administration in education is precarious in that you are an "at-will" employee, meaning, you have no recourse for being sacked at anytime of the year and for no reason at all. If fact, they do not have to provide a reason, when you are "at-will." Of course, Curly Howard would squeal, "Which one's will?"
What makes it worse is that I didn't get a chance to say goodbye, as she left for vacation yesterday to Mexico and she wasn't notified of her job status until Monday. Makes me sick to my stomach. Good people are not easy to find.

Treat yourself to some good food! I hope you will celebrating with family later!

You're the third Happy Birthday I've wished today. An uncle, a niece and now a Pen Pal. Remember Pen Pals?

I ate a bad Chinese eggplant dish for lunch. When done correctly, it is one of my favorite dishes. Alas, this wasn't right. I should have known when they refused to add beef during the stir-fry/sauté. First time I ever had a rejection to that variation request. Now, I'm on the throne paying for it. They also refused to add yellow onions and sugar snap peas to the Kung Pao shrimp. That is a variation of my own making - it's wonderful, adding a bit of sweetness to the dish, which really rounds it out. Well, at least the Yankees won.

I think I've only met one person in my lifetime - a poli-sci professor whom I became friends with in college, until he left to work for the NSA.

Kawhi Leonard, Harmon Killebrew, Gary Busey, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Craig Sager, Bernard Herrman, and last but not least in my book Little Eva, who did the LEGITIMATE version of "The Locomotion."

Wasn't Little Eva Carol King's babysitter or housekeeper? Anyway, she's from right down the road in Kinston, NC. June 29 was my parents' anniversary and my high school girlfriend's birthday.

Good recall, Renfield. Yes she did work as a housekeeper/babysitter for the songwriting team of Carole King and Jerry Goffin, who wrote "The Locomotion" and had her sing it. She had a few lesser hits like "Keep Your Hands Off My Baby" and "Let's Turkey Trot." Glad you remember her! Grand Funk did an okay version of "The Locomotion" and one of those 90s teenyboppers (Tiffany or Debbie Gibson or similar) also covered it.

Missed the game, but nice to get the McBroom! It also be nice to see the Yanks get some more hits but hit enough HR's and you can still win. On to Houston for a one game series and then Cleveland. Go Yanks!

Go Yanks! You said it! I hope the starting pitching starts dominating again too. They've regressed a bit.
But at 56-20, who can complain?

Happy birthday, Rizzuto. I’m not catching these celebrations as quickly as I usually do. One day I’m sure I’ll regret missing my time with you kids. It’s survival, inger style. I hope it works… like Ringo said, “It don’t come easy”…
