Shouldn't we have Mitch Mitchell on this list? Also Bobby Graham, who was essentially the British counterpart to Hal Blaine as a session drummer. Ringo is no slouch IMO. Ringo gets a bad rap from drummer fans, but he is underrated in my opinion. Ringo never practiced playing drums unless there was a band to play with and a song to accompany - his philosophy of percussion is rather unique in that sense. Lennon said they rarely told Ringo what they had in mind for a song and he was never out of time. Not a drum afficianado, but few drummers have as many songs that you can recognize from the drumming pattern as Ringo. Also, supposedly you could set your metronome to Ringo's beat. |

Obviously it included stops in London, Liverpool and Hamburg. Several of the clubs The Beatles played in Hamburg when they were honing their craft are still there. In one of them -The Indra I believe--there's an old poster from 1962 showing The Beatles opening for Ringo's band Rory Storn and The Hurricanes. This was always a great source of amusement for Ringo. |
