Scouting report on Gilbert from reddit:
Just a few more hours until we know the team that will try and go for 28. Maybe its complete, maybe not. Once the deadline passes, the yanks will face righty Logan Gilbert. The 2nd Year Pitcher owns a 2.78 ERA through an impressive 123.0 IP so far. some nuggets about the kid: Gilberts main pitch is his 4sm (55%), to compliment that he throws a Slider (25%), Curve (10%) and a Changeup (10%). All of his pitches are above league average in the velocity department. His 4sm sits at 96 mph. His Pitches are rather average in regards to movement and are spinning below league average as well.
Last year his 4sm was one of the best in the League. This year its more of the same. While it is not on the same level as last year, its still very good. His slider is league average and both the curve and the change are above league average. So one could say his "money pitch" is defnitely the 4sm, which he sets up through his breaking stuff.
Gilbert, as gonzales yesterday, is reverse-splitting, meaning that he allows better stats to righties. But with Gilbert it is much more prominent: allowed OPS vs RHB is .738 and his allowed OPS vs LHB is .555. He also has more PA's against righties, so this is not a fluke. (little callback to yesterday where i said that gonzales was reverse splitting: i was feeling quite great when rizzo immediately went deep.)
Gilbert has faced the yanks. Not this year but last year. And boy what a gem that was: 7.0 IP, 0 ER on 1 Hit. Outside of the fact that Gary was hitting 3rd, that lineup included all the big boys as well. So no fluke game in my Opinion.
This year the stats look good on the surface: great ERA and has been going deep into games with his 123.0 IP. He has went at least 5.0 IP in every single Outing this year and has not allowed more than 4 ER in any of them. But you also have to say that he hasnt went further than 7.0 IP this year and most of his outings are 5.0 or 6.0 IP.
And then there are the expected stats and metrics. Just take a quick peek at his Baseball Savant Page, that looks not as good as the 2.78 ERA. And yeah, expected ERA: 4.14, FIP: 3.43. Also: last year he had about the same xERA and his actual ERA represented that a bit better then. In conclusion: lets get these actual stats and expected stats a little closer by playing a little revenge for last year. Oh and everybody enjoy the Deadline Day. Happy F5ing!

Trevino two games in a row. I thought Boone would have sat him after hitting two homers.

We traded the wrong starting pitcher.

With Trivino and Effros, Boone will be like a six year old boy that just got two new Tonka trucks. Which one should he play with first? What if he crashes them together?…

Does anyone think we have too many outfielders and not enough starting pitching now? Unbalanced, just like last season when we had nearly all right-handed bats in Yankee Stadium.

We traded the wrong starting pitcher. I don't understand why we traded any pitcher with a group of starters this thin.

Just read that Clarke Schmidt is back in AAA. WTF is Cashman doing? So, we replaced Monty with Montas. We replaced Severino with German?

Taillion expiring contract and innings limit so trading him and promoting Schmidt to starter would have made sense. Instead they got rid of Montgomery (who they prob will have to face in 3-4 days), kept Taillon, demoted Schmidt, and put Severino to where he can't pitch for 2 months while he said he's feeling better? Ok? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
