Yankees GM Brian Cashman explained the reasoning behind the decision in the release: “It has been well documented that I have been reluctant in the past to make changes to our coaching staff in the middle of a season. I am a big believer that successes and failures are collective efforts. However, I ultimately felt that a change was needed and that a new voice overseeing our hitting operations would give us the best chance to perform closer to our capabilities as we move forward into the second half of our season. I want thank Dillon for all his efforts. He has a bright baseball mind that will continue to lead to a long and fruitful baseball career. |

2 things here:
1. Lawson saying he didn't care about results
2. The Yankees AA catcher fixed Volpe's swing over 1 weekend and Chicken Parm
Neither of those things install much confidence in Lawson for sure.

I think Hal gives Cashman the rest of the year since the team is right there for a playoff spot but I feel like Cashman might be more under a microscope than ever at this trade deadline.
