Not bad ... these short contracts are much more palatable

So there’s one ridiculous ask that came back to earth…At that price, I’d like to have added that bat to the line up…

Yeah but there is a pretty good chance that you get the 2020-2022 Bellinger which would turn out to be a disaster He's been very similar to all or nothing Snell. Great every few years .... bad to ok in between Soto's floor is very good, ceiling Elite, every thing in between great. Even if it's for 1 season Soto should put the Yankees over the top offensively ... if Rodon can do the same with the rotation the Yankees will have as good a shot as any team this year

Hypothetical, of course, but I'll rephrase my question... Would it have been better for the Yanks to sign Bellinger (CF) and keep King than to gamble that they'll be able to sign Soto to what will be a long-term very expensive deal?

He's just such a difference maker. Bellinger with a good season can opt out and leave after one season as well.

Good deal for Bellinger. If he repeats his 2023 season, he opts out. If he sucks, he just stays with 26+ million a year contract.

True...Bellinger, who can play CF, could leave after one year, but I do like shorter term contracts. Also, Yanks have Dominguez and potentially Jones waiting in the wings. Water under the bridge though...hopefully Soto has a great year and Yanks are able to resign him. Gonna be interesting to see how all OFs fit into the lineup.

I thought about that but did not have the heart to post it. I concede that I thought Bellinger would get a lot bigger deal. But IN HINDSIGHT I would rather the Yankees had signed him to that deal and the Soto deal were never made.

The Yankees are linked to top international prospects. If signing Snell costs the Yankees draft picks and international bonus money, I hope he signs with the Angels. There's also the issue of the Yankees paying a 110% tax on any amount of money over the top L-Tax threshold. I have read that signing Snell will cost the Yankees draft picks and international bonus money. Because Monty was traded, we could sign him without those two costs tacked onto the luxury tax.

I always felt that monty was the better choice of the two
