Just my 2 cents...But he's hit at every level, he might just need more time at Triple A. I think he's only played like 35 games in Triple A. Way too early for the Yankees to give up on him.
Certainly not suggesting they give up on him, but to this untrained eye, he doeesn't pass the test. Too much swing and miss. He is supposed to be a good defender, I have read some scouts feel he can play CF. He hasn't stood out to me as a defender. You make a good point about limited PT at the MLB level but he's behind Dominguez and Jones. While I'm not confident the Yanks resign Soto, I'm still not seeing an opportunirty for him to win a starting job anytime soon. I think it's more likely he becomes a right handed Florial than he plays a prominent role in the Yankee roster any time soon. Some have suggested he has no trade value, but if a team feels like he will hit for power and can play CF his value could be higher than we think. I've been called a prospect hugger in the past, but if the Yankees were to move him for a decent return or as part of a package, I wouldn't lose any sleep. Pereira strikes me in a similar fashion. He appears serviceable in the outfield, but Florial has much better speed and a better arm. Offensively, Pereira appears overmatched at the MLB level. And, though Pereira has not received a long look in the big leagues, he has already had a more extended and consistent opportunity than Florial ever had with the Yankees big club. I do not see him as a MLB regular. Like Florial, he may top out at AAA. What Pereira does have going for him is that he is still just 22 years old (he is about to turn 23 on April 10th). So, he still has a couple years to figure it out, and that aspect does have some trade value.

Regardless his trade value is null
So far he's still rated ahead of players like Rice, despite being 3 years younger.

I'm pulling for the kid.

Myles "Turkey In The" Straw back to the minors in favor of Esteban Florial! I wish Florial all the best.

I don't think it was posted on this board but Michael Lorenzen signed with the Rangers for one year, 4.5 million a few days back. There were rumors linking him to the Yankees before that. I certainly would have taken that deal for some depth.

What concerns me about Gil is he has thrown so few innings in each of the past two seasons and I've heard it reported that he is not being restricted in any way. Perhaps I misheard but that seems contrary to the way these things are usually handled.

Gil's lack of innings pitched the last two years and increasing his workload this year are definitely a concern.

If the Yankees planeed on signing Yammato and "settled" for Stroman, they must have a few coins left in the projected budger for '24. Lorenzen should have fit nicley into the difference between the two. If Cole had not come up lame I would have been happy to save the coins for the deadline, but given the current situation I don't think I'd wait.

This doesn't mean much, but you never know. Maybe Monty wants to come back?

The Guardians are bringing Florial north and optioning Myles Straw...and the $20M owed to him, back to AAA !!!! We'll the great Florial debate that raged on the YES board may finally be answered. I'm pulling for the kid. The Guardians chose to make Florial their backup centerfielder despite having a dreadful spring training in which he batted .163 in 49 AB with 22 K and 5 BB. Theyre starting a converted infielder named Tyler Freeman with a career OPS of .641 in 254 PA over two seasons. Freeman had a decent spring training batting record.
Either way, I don't think the Guardians have found their starting centerfielder for this season yet. On the other hand, it looks like it'll be a while before Cody Morris does some pitching for the Yanks.

The high swing and miss rate continues to be an issue. When he was with us, I had reached the conclusion if he were to spend any time in the bigs it would be as a reserve defensive OFer who could play all three OF spots and run a little.
