From MLBTrade rumors...
Young: Rangers Do Not Expect Further Additions By Steve Adams | February 14, 2024 at 4:28pm CDT
Rangers fans have been holding out hope for a reunion with left-hander Jordan Montgomery, but general manager Chris Young threw plenty of cold water on that possibility Wednesday, telling the team’s beat that any notable acquisitions are unlikely at this point (link via Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News).
“I don’t think there are any additions coming at this point,” Young candidly stated. While he maintained that the Rangers will “keep an open mind” on free agents (including Montgomery), he also noted that long-term uncertainty regarding the team’s television contract “is real” and has impacted spending this offseason — even on the heels of a World Series win.
Hmmmm... Reunion in sight ? If monty was smart he would stay away from the yankees

Confused and curious… Well he did better for the most part after he left ny and judging by how he struggled in ny when he was last with the team . I can assume that blake didnt help him much back then . Then there is the fact that blake has had more success with the bullpen than the rotation .

I've had time to think about this today with Snell. This is the NY Yankees one of the most expensive franchises in all of professional sports in one of the biggest cities in the world. They have their own network. They have one of the most profitable brands in all of sports. The NYY print money. We have already seen injuries before the season even started. We saw what happened when Judge went down. God forbid Cole gets hurt we are doomed. 2-5 are all questions with injuries and constancy. There is a CY Young winning pitcher out there that wants to be a Yankee and the Yankees want. This is stupidity. Go all in and work it out.

In 22 before he was traded his era was close to 4 at about 3.7 ,his era with st louis was more thsn a half a run lower that same season . And of course there was last season where he and eovaldi pretty much carried the rotation into the ws

He was a developing starting pitcher. We have no idea what effect Blake had on that aspect. If there was anything that I saw as a negative for Montgomery in NY it was the odd propensity that Boone had for pulling him out of games without letting him get out of the fifth inning. Did Blake influence those pitching changes? I don’t know. Montgomery’s numbers didn’t change all that much, he was an ERA+ 107 in the AL and went to a 127+ in the NL. That’s not enough deviation to get excited about. What made him appear so much better was that he was trusted to pitch deeper into games. Much of the difference was in his first few starts in STL., when it could be said that most NL hitters had seen very little of him…

Just because Snell had a fine season in '23 does not dictate he will be very good in '24. Look at the man's record. Would anyone be shcked if Stroman put up better numbers in '24 ? He is not worth the price he is demanding.

In Sept/Oct he was 2-3, 4.36. Then in 2023 before being shipped off to Texas Montgomery posted ERA and FIP numbers that were just a tiny bit better than his final season in NY… If you read the article you posted Matt Blake also chimes in with his reply and it makes sense. ######### “Sometimes it’s dependent on who you’re facing and some teams handle four-seam [fastballs] better,’’ Blake told The Post on Tuesday before the Yankees’ 7-6, 10-inning win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Blake pointed to the fact the Yankees have gotten pitchers to become more effective by focusing on one or two pitches — notably Clay Holmes with his sinker, in addition to refining the repertoires of Wandy Peralta and Lou Trivino. “We’re gonna tell you to throw the pitches that are having the most success most of the time,’’ Blake said. “There’s also a component of, ‘I’ll show them.’ He’s disappointed with how things ended here.”… ########## The improvement in Montgomery was short term, small sample stuff. He got hot again in Texas. Maybe he’s as fully developed as he’ll ever be now, and he’ll have hot and cold times just like any other pitcher…
