That was Montgomery spouting off after his 5 starts in August when he went 4-0; 1.73. In Sept/Oct he was 2-3, 4.36. Then in 2023 before being shipped off to Texas Montgomery posted ERA and FIP numbers that were just a tiny bit better than his final season in NY… If you read the article you posted Matt Blake also chimes in with his reply and it makes sense. ######### “Sometimes it’s dependent on who you’re facing and some teams handle four-seam [fastballs] better,’’ Blake told The Post on Tuesday before the Yankees’ 7-6, 10-inning win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Blake pointed to the fact the Yankees have gotten pitchers to become more effective by focusing on one or two pitches — notably Clay Holmes with his sinker, in addition to refining the repertoires of Wandy Peralta and Lou Trivino. “We’re gonna tell you to throw the pitches that are having the most success most of the time,’’ Blake said. “There’s also a component of, ‘I’ll show them.’ He’s disappointed with how things ended here.”… ########## The improvement in Montgomery was short term, small sample stuff. He got hot again in Texas. Maybe he’s as fully developed as he’ll ever be now, and he’ll have hot and cold times just like any other pitcher… Point is , blake didnt help him much if at all.

Point is that you’ve created a straw man. You haven’t a clue what happened between Montgomery and Blake. That’s the point…

That’s the point… And you havent given any argument as to how blake helped monty or any other starter for that matter outside of maybe cortez. If i didnt know better you are just arguing for the sake of arguing now

I’m not the one pretending to have deep inside information that can expressly defend any “point”… I’m just talking about the numbers… that’s all.

All you are doing is starting an argument for the sake of starting one . All i did was give my opinion . Now if you actually have any real proof that Blake actually helped and improved any yankees starting pitcher other than cortez then please inform me . And i gave numbers too , so far monty’s numbers overall have been better since he left ny . Maybe not a lot better but better

Not sure what the discussion is about but if it's Matt Blake I have not been impressed at all by him and think he should be gone. We all know what Cole was when we signed him. Most trades and FAs flopped. Our prospects failed to break into the rotation. Rodon blew him off at the end of the year. Monty was a #5 with no run support.

I too havent been impressed with him either . In fact Blake has done very little with the starting rotation and while he has had some success with bullpen its been limited as we have seen with the inconsistency of guys like peralta and holmes . And yet i still see fans say “ lets see what blake can do with this guy “ .

I hope he hits behind Vlad, Jr. - just to see them both run the bases together.
