Hey Kaybli, yeah, it won't be anything like if the Yankees were playing, but within the confines of the NL I pull for the Phillies, if only to have fans around here talking about something other than the damned Eagles, who I never pull for under any conditions. I can't watch a sporting event without at least mildly rooting for someone. Or just as often against someone. If I didn't have any interest, I just wouldn't watch at all. Up until interleague play I always rooted for the AL team in the World Series. Even Boston when they played the Mets. Of course there wasn't the level of hate for Boston back then, at least not for me. That didn't really kick in until 2004, and now it's in my DNA. Interleague play plus free agency plus general deterioration of the give-a-damn meter has watered down league loyalty. But when I was growing up, there were definitely American League people and National League people, and the All Star Game was a very big deal. How about you? Any rooting interest other than anyone but the Astros? Which is legitimate enough IMO. The last time I liked the Eagles it was because I liked to watch Randall Cunningham…That’s been a minute or two ago… I hated Cunningham growing up a giants fan but now I have respect for him. He was a true talent.

He was a true talent. Cunningham was one of the most exciting players I ever saw. Insane athleticism. What I absolutely couldn't stand was Buddy Ryan. Just a thoroughly crude and obnoxious coach. I loved seeing that lout get beaten.

I used to really enjoy watching a certain Falcon’s QB that reminded me a bit of Cunningham, too. Then his lifestyle was revealed…
We speak of baseball’s color barrier, but the unspoken disdain for blacks at the quarterback position surely prevented us from seeing amazing talents at the position until Marlin Briscoe took his first snap and was still a lonely black man.
All of this is notwithstanding the cameo by Fritz Pollard in 1923…
Anyway this season 14/32 starting quarterbacks were black on opening day in 2023. On a league that is 70% that represents a lot of progress…
And the Giants? They waited until 2017? Really? Subbing for Eli…
BTW: Warran Moon was the first black quarterback for 4 NFL teams! …

Remember that amazing play Cunningham made against the Giants when it looked like he was going to try to run the ball into the end zone and then he stopped on a dime and threw a touchdown pass? You used to see that play all the time on the highlight shows.

You used to see that play all the time on the highlight shows. Yep. It was the opposite of faking the pass and suddenly doing the tuck and run. The only guy that was ever more amazing to watch was Francis Tarkenton… Joe Kapp was an amazing runner but didn’t throw as well. Another amazing QB to watch was Dan Pastorini. Since he was also the punter and would sometimes punt if he ws in trouble on third and long and of course would fake punts and pass or run. He ran and passed pretty well…

No team in either LCS has more than 90 wins. Strange, 3 of the 4 teams have identical 90-72 regular season records. Didn't a very wise man say that "the playoffs are a crapshoot"?

Bregman is an LSU boy, but I am going to be pulling for the Rangers. Who knows, maybe I can wrangle a World Series ticket for the home games in Arlington.

From ESPN.com "Reggie Jackson, the original, hit 18 home runs in 77 career postseason games. Harper, with three so far in 2023, has 14 in 42 postseason games. Indeed, out of 192 players with at least 150 career postseason plate appearances, Harper ranks fifth in OPS at 1.017, putting him near the top of a leaderboard featuring names like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, George Brett and Carlos Beltran." So glad we saved money by not signing Bryce Harper.
