Santander would make up from some of the lost offense. He's a good fielder too. Cole and Burnes at the top of the Yankees rotation has a nice ring to it. Not sure if Rizzo will re-sign with the Yankees. That might depend on what kind of year Rice has. But I rather the Yankees keep both Soto and Torres. I was just answering the question.
So Quim, what if Soto leaves the Yankees in free agency and goes to the Mets, will Alonso be Soto's likely replacement?
No Way ! I dont want Alonso! What do you think the Yankees would do it those 2 players left?

I was born in Williamsport, PA. Home of the Little League Series. I moved to Chicago in 95 and have been out here ever since. OK. Home of Mike Mussina too. Yep, I was a big fan of the Yankees signing Moose. We didn't have to many locals make the big leagues. Mussina was by far the best one. Ed Ott and Tom Brookens were a couple others. Tom O'Malley played 3rd for the Giants for a couple of seasons in the 80's but that was about it.

I thought it was interesting that Mussina chose to go to college at Stanford, yet as I recall was adamant about playing professionally in the East.

He could have stayed home and played football at Penn State, as a kicker. I think he made the right choice.

In fact, he was asked to play for Team Italy in the WBC. Nope. Reminded me of a Colorado QB, Sal Aunese, who was inducted into the Italian Sports Hall of Fame. Only problem...he was Samoan.

Maybe just a bit before your time. I think he was between the Bahr brothers. Grit Magazine, right? I remember those ads in low-end publications "Be a Grit salesman." Right in there with the ads for Charles Atlas body building and learning electronics at home in your spare time.

Yep, he and Lou Piniella were both of Spanish ancestry, and I am pretty sure Mussina was from Sephardic Jewish heritage. On the other hand, the 1970s ad with the Indian chief crying over pollution in the river actually featured an Italian-ancestry actor who worked under the name of Iron Eyes Cody.

Never mind Chi, I looked it up and Vitiello was definitely before your time, early 70s before Matt and Chris Bahr. Although Led Zeppelin was just cranking into gear.

My step-mother used to work for the Grit in the administrative office. I don't remember Vitiello. I do remember Matt Bahr, he won the Super Bowl with the Steelers in his rookie NFL season and then he kicked for the Browns. You have a great memory Pipps!

It was a pretty well-known publication back when Reader's Digest and TV Guide were the two biggest circulation magazines. Back then it would have been unthinkable that the Little League World Series would be a national TV event.

My memory is a little hazy because I was so young at the time, but I think we used to get The Grit on Weekends, before it was replaced by the Williamsport Sun-Gazette Sunday edition. Back then the championship game of the Little League WS was broadcasted by ABC Sports but that was it. No other games were on TV and they didn't have lights, so no night games, just like Wrigley.

Iron Eyes Cody (Espera Oscar de Corti) is a distant cousin of mine. He was born and raised in Vermilion Parish in south Louisiana. When I was a kid, when those commercials came on, my uncles would tease about our Italian-Indian cousin. At first, I thought it was a joke, but it was later explained to me exactly how and through whom we were related.

No Way ! I dont want Alonso! What do you think the Yankees would do it those 2 players left? I can't imagine why the Yankees would ever let Torres go if they cant sign Soto ... But If that happens I still dont want Alonso. I dont like him ... he's a Met and a Clown and I belive he will turn into an all or nothing player, sooner then later. I think it has already begun.
