I do not like the idea of Judge in CF on a regular basis, but apparently Soto can only handle RF. So I would play Judge in RF and have Soto DH 30 or so games. DH Judge 30 or so and that keeps him pit of CF a little. I was thinking we might see Grisham start in CF a fair amount vs. RHP since hit hits decently against them. Frankly I wouldn’t want to trust LF at home to Soto. If Stanton doesn’t get out of the gate well we may see him only playing vs. LHP… This acquisition and accommodating the player has a few complications. I hope he’s worth it… Actually, Grisham is better against lefties - a reverse split.

Aaron Boone leaning towards batting Juan Soto second, Aaron Judge third. Aaron Boone: "I'm preparing to play Judgie in center a lot." Adds that he has also talked w/ Judge about possibly playing a little LF, possibly on days w/ Grisham in CF. I do not like the idea of Judge in CF on a regular basis, but apparently Soto can only handle RF. So I would play Judge in RF and have Soto DH 30 or so games. DH Judge 30 or so and that keeps him pit of CF a little. I wonder what Soto thinks about DHing? I'd be willing to bet the Yankees and Boone do everything they can to make his Yankee experience a good one if they have a strong desire to extend him.

A lot of what happens this year depends on whether Stanton can revive his career. I am sure Stanton's decline has been discussed in Yankee meetings. If Stanton repeats his 2023 performance the Yankees might add him to the list of retained salaries. A lineup with Grisham in center, Verdugo in left and Judge in right with Soto as DH might be as productive as that with Soto, Judge, Verdugo in the outfield and Stanton as DH and is certainly better on defense. For Soto, the issue is what gets him a better contract going forward. The guy is going to get paid for his bat.

Brendan Kuty: Marcus Stroman says he's healthy, free of any of the injury issues he had toward the end of last year.
He believes he is a little misunderstood in terms of character and looks forward to showing everyone who he really is. #Yankees

Some guys don't take well to DHing. I don't know about Soto, he doesn't have a lot of history as a DH.

No way he should either ... he's 25 years old and arguably the best hitter in the MLB. He's also a better OFer than some of the dumpster dive hitters that we've had running around the OF the past couple of years (IKF, Cabrera etc ...) If it's up to me... I ask him where he prefers to play and that's where he is going play the entire season.

This guy doesn't think the Yankees not landing Hader is a big deal.

The Yankees would be much better defensively at Yankee Stadium with Judge in LF and Soto RF. You can always flip them back if it doesn't work.

Yanks are gonna have to sacrifice defense for offense. I'd stick with Soto (LF) & Judge (RF).
The real issue is CF, and Grisham is the only "true" CF on the roster. He handles LH pitching OK, so he and Verdugo will have to do until Dominguez returns.

It is not going to make Verdugo happy in his "walk" year...but I think I'd jockey him to all 3 outfield positions and maybe some games at DH against a very good right handed pitcher. I don't want Judge to play center. I hope the Yankees see it that way.

Unless he plays his azz off and releases all that untapped potential… Yeah...much will depend on how either Grisham/Verdugo perform. But I don't see Verdugo being happy as a 4th OF, especially since it is his walk year. Regardless, if Yanks sign resign Soto he's gonna play somewhere, and I prefer Judge in RF.

I like Verdugo on our team. I wouldn't be so quick to run him out of town. We've seen that the Martian isn't invulnerable to injury, so...let Verdugo and Stroman stir the drink, give this team some fire. I love Judge, but he and Stanton aren't the barn-burning kind of players we need to go deep into games w/ the like of the Astros, say.
