MLB Trade Rumors | Steve Adams: The long journey of Clint Frazier continues. The former top prospect just signed a deal with the Atlantic League’s Charleston Dirty Birds. Frazier famously came to New York as a prized young talent in the Andrew Miller, but outside of a strong showing during the 2020 pandemic season, he’s never quite made it work at the major-league level. This stint in independent ball comes on the heels of a couple of poor showings in Chicago, in 2023 with the White Sox and in 2022 with the Cubs. Frazier also spent some time with the Rangers’ Triple-A affiliate last year but was never called up.

Yankeesource: Small sample size but it’s interesting how Trevino and Wells handle Clay Holmes.
Trevino: 10 IP, 12 H (38AB), 3 BB, 12K Wells: 7.1 IP, 3H (27 AB), 1BB, 9K
With Wells last year, Clay Holmes had 20 PA and opponents had just 2 hits in 20 AB with 0BB and 5K.
Again the sample size isn’t a lot (so don’t go crazy) but it’s just something I noticed over the course of two seasons. With the naked eye, Holmes looks a bit more comfortable with Wells calling.

Empire Sports Media: The New York Yankees believed Jasson Dominguez would begin his rehab assignment at some point this month, but we finally get some form of an official day for that. Aaron Boone addressed the media prior to their second game against the Rays this series, and he told reporters that the switch-hitting phenom was set to begin his rehab assignment on either Tuesday or Wednesday. The Bronx Bombers could get even scarier, as their top prospect could provide some help if their outfield were to experience an injury or someone were to hit a massive skid.

We need to stay scary and get scarier. It appears there’s no regression for the Orioles this year. Hopefully, the days of being shut out every sixth or seventh day are behind us…

I love the added touches Gerrit Cole brings to the Yankees. He does seem to enjoy helping the younger pitchers on this roster. He's just a great teammate.

Not sure it's a complaint or not but the Yankees spend tons on coaching and analytics. Last year Wells and his minor league teammates gave Volpe tips on his swing over chicken parm. Soto seems to have an affect on OC. Cole tutoring Gil. O'Neil and Cone always pointing things out.

Their bullpen is #1, despite being constructed of players that were traded away or DFA'd by other teams. Holmes was nothing special on the Pirates but has become an All Star closer on the Yankees. I think their coaches deserve some of the credit for this.

Cole is something special and loves explaining his craft to others on the team.

The starters are pretty good too. You have to realize that the issues our guys have are common issues on most teams. At least for this year, any way. Look at what Cortez was before he came to NY. That seems like an amazing success, right? Stroman is indeed struggling this year. If he’s still suffering the affects of last season’s injury, that’s not on the coaches. Look What we’ve gotten out of Gil, plus Clarke finally completing a six and getting two outs in the 7th in a tight game shows he’s progressing. Rodon has apparently come back from injury with a new pitch mix where he doesn’t have to sling the ball at 97-98 or rely on a slider only. Yet, he’s almost the forgotten man. Sometimes it’s too easy to view a team through the prism of a desire for perfection…

This season. I'm talking past years and prospects.

This season. I'm talking past years and prospects. Yes, I realized that, and that’s why I specifically stated this season. Of course those issues of the past were not connected to the current staff, which is one reason those former coaches aren’t here… But your point is well taken…

ESPN: Speaking of injury rehab... the ace continued to work his way back to the Bronx. Gerrit Cole threw 29 pitches Saturday, including 13 curveballs. His fastball was hitting 89 mph. In his next couple of outings, the plan is to toss a couple of simulated innings. Meanwhile, DJ LeMahieu took some swings off the also-rehabbing JT Brubaker in Tampa at the team complex. Finally, reliever Tommy Kahnle is set to join Double-A Somerset Tuesday, coincidentally the day Cole might throw his next outing. The cavalry is coming.
Last night in a Tampa game: RHP Tommy Kahnle: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

The Athletic | Brendan Kuty ($): Reliever Ron Marinaccio found himself the odd man out when Nick Burdi returned from injury and he was understandably disappointed by the demotion, the seventh time he’s taken the shuttle back to Triple-A since his ‘21 debut. Marinaccio has pitched very well thus far, but at the end of the day, Marinaccio and Ian Hamilton are the only Yankee relievers with options. Given the fungibility of relievers and pitcher health in general, I’m sure we’ll see Marinaccio again before too long.

New York Daily News | Gary Phillips ($): Jose Trevino has been resurgent in 2024 for the Yankees, both at the dish and behind it. Friday night, he made several critical plays in the Yankee win over the Rays, including throwing out two base runners. His pitch framing also stood out, something that is par for the course this season. Closer Clay Holmes remarked on Trevi’s work after the game, noting that it seems like the former Platinum Glove winner seems to steal strikes every game.
