CBS Sports | R.J. Anderson: It’s not typical to hear about records at this point in somebody’s career, but that’s the norm for Juan Soto. Yesterday, he set the record for most walks drawn by a hitter before their 26th birthday, breaking the long standing record from Yankees legend, Mickey Mantle. We’ve all had the privilege to see Soto’s control of the strike zone over the last month and a half. This helps put into perspective how historic that skill is for a player this young.

Well, this particular record would have to be accomplished at this point a player's career. If he was older, he wouldn't qualify.

FanGraphs | Dan Szymborski: Giancarlo Stanton’s had a nice bounceback to start 2024, but he hasn’t exactly been what the Yankees wanted when they traded for the then-reigning MVP in 2017. Now closer to the end of his career than the beginning, Dan takes a look at Stanton’s Cooperstown case, especially as the slugger starts to climb the home run leaderboard. 500 dingers is a possibility for Big G, but the rest of the resume might leave him just shy of the standards of enshrinement. blogs.fangraphs.com/will-giancarlo-stanton-deliver-a-cooperstown-speech/

He had the one MONSTER season in 2017. Other than that, he's been a very good, nowhere near great power bat. In 15 seasons, he has driven in 100 runs just twice. He's never consistently hit for much of a BA. His a non-entity defensively. Add in how often he'd been injured and the mediocre production over the second half of his career and he isn't anywhere close to Cooperstown.

I know I should lighten up on Big G but I just can not get over the fact he is paid as one of the best players in the game but all he does in go on a few HR tears. He does not play the OF. He can't run. If he does get on base in late innings he needs to be replaced with a runner. He has some ugly swings and brutal Ks. He is killing other from getting DH reps.

MiLB.com: In some positive injury news, the New York Yankees sent infielder DJ LeMahieu for a rehab assignment yesterday with the Somerset Patriots. The former Gold Glove winner, expected to be the team’s starting third baseman on Opening Day, instead began the year on the shelf due to a fractured foot suffered when he fouled a ball off it during spring training. A previous attempt at a rehab assignment, back in late April, was aborted after just one game due to the resurgence of swelling within his foot. Hopefully, this attempt to return goes smoother than the last.
Manager Aaron Boone hinted at the possibility of LeMahieu rejoining the Yankees in time for their next road trip. The Yankees will head to San Diego for a three-game set on the West Coast from May 24-26, so if his rehab assignment goes better than the last one, perhaps LeMahieu will be back then. He went 1-for-3 in three innings last night for Somerset.

NJ.com | Randy Miller: When the news came through that the Yankees had traded for Alex Verdugo last winter, the general response of the fanbase was “meh,” in part because he wasn’t Juan Soto (it’s so nice that he came the next day), and in part because has not only a former member of the Red Sox, but an unpopular player on the Red Sox.
Within just a couple of months, however, Verdugo has turned his public perception around, and has become a fan favorite in New York. While the left fielder would love to stay in the Bronx long term, realistically, the fit isn’t there, as both the No. 1 (Jasson Domínguez) and No. 2 prospects (Spencer Jones) are outfielders by trade, and they are knocking on the door. No matter how things go down the line, however, one thing is clear: everybody is looking to make as much noise as possible this year.

Pinstripes Alley: So what do we have in Anthony Volpe?
It’s telling that while Depth Charts thinks he’s a five-win player over the whole season, they also think he’s a 110 wRC+ mid-level projection. That leaves some upside, and while I do think that tail-end bat speed limits his overall power, a 125-ish wRC+ is probably him at his best; or, what he’s doing right now. With good-to-elite defense, that’s a more valuable player at the ceiling than someone like Gleyber Torres.
We started this post talking about the hope that Volpe would follow Bobby Witt Jr.’s trajectory. Right now, Witt’s got a little more power, a little better defense, and a little less whiff. Still, a lot of what Volpe’s doing right now is real — he may not be playing like this for all 162, but I’m going to buy stock in AVP and hold.

I love Anthony Volpe, but I would trade him in a minute for Bobby Witt Jr. - I just think Witt has a much higher ceiling and is just a bigger and stronger athlete.

One key to remember is we know Volpe can handle and play in NY even at a young age.
