I've never understood the budget defense for Cash. Maybe Hal hasn't always raised his budget by the same percentage as other teams but the Yankees are always amongst the highest payrolled Teams in the League. I haven't taken the time to do this but I'm sure if you went back 10 or 20 years, very few, if any teams have outspent the Yankees. To me it sometimes feels that some fans don't believe the payroll dollars already committed before a season starts count. I very much understood when Hal brought up the point that he was outspending teams that were beating him and then to add insult to injury he was giving them LT money at the end of the year. In one regard I can relate to Cash. I think the market has really gone crazy the last couple years and there are probably more teams than just the Yankees and Dodgers competing for the top FAs. I do sense that at times his budget for a top player falls a little short of where the market is and then he seems to pivot to what feels like a better value but a lesser player. One question I have always asked myself is how successful would Cash be if he were on a team with half the budget of the Yankees and he wasn't able to cover up his mistakes by throwing money at they. I suspect he would have to become more risk averse. I’ve defended him because of the budget constraints before. I guess in my case I know that the Yanks always seem to have a budget albatross or two on the roster, be it Stanton, Donaldson, Ellsbury. I’m not sure who to lay the blame on for that. I know in the old days George would publicly scream “Get me this guy” and then they’d get him. I don’t know if Hal is quietly whispering those things or not. I guess other teams have an albatross around as well. You are correct that the Yanks always have a big budget. It seems they have to just to get (some) players to want to play in NY. The expenses are higher there, although I wonder why it matters how much an apartment costs when they’re making $20M per year, but it apparently does. The NY budget needs to be higher too because the Yanks tend to not get early draft picks because they’re always near the top of the standings and they don’t do resets like Tampa and other teams. So that’s where I’ve been coming from as a budget sympathizer at least. Maybe that helps? … I get where your coming from this is just an area of disagreement. I think Cash has done a poor job acquiring and developing young players. You make a good point that we often draft late, but there have also been times when players have fallen to us because teams drafting above us couldn't or were unwilling to pay the slot money. I also think we have an advantage over many teams in the Latin Market because of name recognition. Latin players want to play for the Yankees. WTS, I'm somewhat optomistic about the current group of young players. I think Volpe, Dominguez and Wells all ahve a shot at being long term solutions.

Plain % simple = Both Cash & Boone should go ASAP. They should thank god for the ground they walk on for if that I a was the CEO = they would be homeless.

To be fair it’s much tougher to get into the WS these days with the layers of playoffs, so it’s difficult to compare the eras that must be rolled into a statement like that. But to be fair to you, other teams are getting in, and getting in and winning is still the ultimate goal… It may be more difficult to get to the WS, but it is easier to get to the playoffs. 40% of teams make the playoffs. A sickening state of affairs that I abhor beyond any other facet of the game…

Lol they havent been a ws contender in almost 15 years . In fact they are currently in their second longest ws appearance drought since they been called the yankees . And that is accomplished during cashman’s tenure as GM To be fair it’s much tougher to get into the WS these days with the layers of playoffs, so it’s difficult to compare the eras that must be rolled into a statement like that. But to be fair to you, other teams are getting in, and getting in and winning is still the ultimate goal… I don't know if I agree with that. That might make a good topic for a thread all on its own.

It may be more difficult to get to the WS, but it is easier to get to the playoffs. 40% of teams make the playoffs. Exactly . And with the resources cashman has , making the playoffs should be the bare minimum of expectations Cashman has gone 14 years without getting into a World Series. The previous Yankee GM record for such a drought was the seven years (67-73) that Lee MacPhail was able to cling to the job during the indifferent stewardship of CBS. He's been living off of 2009 for a long time. In fact it's hard to find GMs on any team who have kept their job longer without at least a pennant to show for it. Billy Beane had 19 seasons (97-15) without a pennant, obviously operating on a much smaller budget. You could say Kenny Williams with the White Sox went 18 seasons (06-23) without a pennant, although technically he was no longer GM after 2012 but still seemed to be the main personnel guy. I'm not certain on that one. I didn't do anything resembling thorough research, so maybe there are others (not counting people like Connie Mack who owned the team), but there can't be many who retained the position after so many years of not winning a pennant.

But, I understand that not everyone is going to aways see things the same way. To each their own. Me? I'm going to refer to Jeter again... “Good teams make the playoffs, hot teams win the playoffs.”

Yankees make the playoffs , thats what they have been doing for over 10 years now . They have been good but not hot . And with the resources cashman has been given , making the playoffs is a minimum expectation .

In 2023 the Mets and Padres had more resources than Cashman. How'd they do? The Dodgers had those same resources for years. Other than the shortened covid season, How'd the Dodgers do? With all the players they signed during the late 70's and early 80's How'd the California Angels do?
I didn't get an answer the first 2 times I asked. But do you care to tell me... Since Cashman was named GM of the Yankees...What MLB team has won more WS than the Yankees?
Oh, one more thing..Is it Cashman fault that he put good teams together, but those teams didn't get hot in the postseason?

. All three of the mets , padres and the yankees missed the playoffs, dodgers made the playoffs . Mets and dodgers have both been to more ws in the last ten years so far than the yankees have . Yankees have had higher payrolls both the mets and padres before 23 and never did anymore than the mets and padres in the playoffs . For over a decade no gm did less than what cashman was given until the mets blew that out of the water last year . Tell me how can it be acceptable for cashman to have blown several billions of dollars over the last 14 years so far without even one pennant to show for it? What about the 4 times the yankees missed the playoffs in the last 11 years despite spending over 200 mill each of those seasons? And yes it is cashman’s fault because while he could build teams that could make the playoffs but those same teams were not built to win in the playoffs . That is on cashman
