I thought Stroman would be a good fit and from a baseball perspective he is...though the final dollar figure is high. Reading his history I do wonder if he isn't thin skinned. Some of his rants are concerning. The Yankees already have Carlos Rodon signed long term to do all the complaining I want to hear from millionaires. I also wonder why the Cubs were happier to sign a pitcher from Japan for big dollars rather than give Stroman the contract extension he wanted. But with all that, he is an improvement and the Yankees need innings. At least if you sign a Japanese pitcher and he rants you can’t understand him… 🤓

Stroman signing is better than resigning Frankie Montas. Stroman and Luke Weaver can help us at the back end of the Yankees starting rotation. I think that the team will solve the starting problem with a player trade rather than overprice free agent signing. Cease deal isn't going to happen if the Chicago GM is still demanding too young talent much for him, even the Orioles with their minor league stock of talent is stepping back from him. Snell is just a 5-inning plus starter, do you want to pay out a lot of money for that, knowing what it will do the bullpen on the day of his starts? Monty is probably heading back to the Rangers, would you really want to return to the Yankees after the way he was treated?

until the yankees prove me by getting one of the top pitchers available like snell, monty, ceese or burnes, i will consider stroman the consolation prize, better than but similar in theory to kei igawa. Thats a bit extreme ... Stroman is a quality MLB pitcher ... Igawa made 12 MLB starts in his career Actually statistically and production wise ... Stroman is comparable to Monty My only concern is that he had a hip problem and of course Cashman tends to disregard inhuries when making big moves. I could see him missing half the 2024 season with the same injury not saying stroman isn't a quality mlb starter. he is. the comparison was only because we settled for 2nd tier instead of getting one of the top guys same as as we did when we got igawa. not comparing their ability whatsoever.
think stroman fills out the rotation with a reliable arm, but he's not snell or any of others who could really be a #2 to cole. and if we're done here, then we need rodon and cortes, both question marks, to step up. could be asking a lot.

Stroman's image could use a little polishing...
Stroman opted to pitch for Team USA rather than Team Puerto Rico in the '17 WBC. He pitched 6 no-hit innings against Team Puerto Rico in the championship game, which Team USA won 8-0. He posted a 2.35 ERA in 3 games and was named WBC MVP. He did pitch for Team Puerto Rico in the '23 WBC as he was not selected to represent Team USA.

Clipper Weaver has an era of over 5 how is he gonna help as a starting pitcher ? As for stroman , he is gonna be the number 3 starter behind cole and rodon . No way he throws behibd schmidt or cortez

I did not want the Yankees to sign Stroman and believe that he is an average back end starter at this point. That being said, I suppose that "average" at the back end will win us some games. As long as he wears pinstripes, I will support and root for him. You can’t always get what want But if you try sometimes You get what you need… 😅

Nice stat for a pitcher making half his starts at Yankee Stadium. I always prefer groundball pitchers to fly ball pitchers . Just hope the yankees defense is sharp.

Unexpected by me, but for a couple years in a moderate price range (in today's market - not much more than Frankie Montas), the signing fills an area of need after the Yankees put all but the most eggs in Yamamoto's basket, while watching other starters going elsewhere. Maybe the Oompah Loompah can magically spin a solid number three or four in the starting rotation... [br They still need another starter . I dont feel comfortable with a rotation that consists of 4 guys who very injury prone Cortes, Stroman, and Rodon were injured last season. Who's the 4th starter that you're talking about?

Who's the 4th starter that you're talking about? Schmidt , the guy missed almost all of 21 with elbow issues on the same elbow that he had tjs on a couple of years prior

Nice stat for a pitcher making half his starts at Yankee Stadium. That stat is even nicer because Stroman pitched at home in a pretty hitters ballpark.

Nice stat for a pitcher making half his starts at Yankee Stadium. uh other than rangers ballpark where he's only pitched only 8 innings, for his career he has a 6+ era at ys which is his highest at any ballpark - not a good stat for a pitcher making half his starts at ys.
many things about this make no sense. he walked away from a $21 mil option. was projected for a 3/63 contract but his value was so depressed that he took 2/$37 mil (with an option). this when salaries for starting pitchers have skyrocketed. huh? nobody wanted the guy. in 2019 cashman said he wasn't a difference maker. now he is?? desperation on both sides.
he does seem like a fighter with a chip on his shoulder and apparently has wanted to be a yankee so maybe he's ultra motivated and has a great season.
with the clock is ticking on cole & judge and only having soto for a season, still think we need another top pitcher.
