Soto was attempting his first steal of the year. He would have made it had Rizzo not swung the bat.

Rizzo takes a FB in the zone, a bounced change and FB high, 2-1 Fb in the middle, but Rizzo misses on top, grounds to Altuve, inning over.
Bottom 5, 3-1 Yanks. 19 pitches for France in the 5th, 84 total. He might be done, but the Astros have used the pen heavily the first 3 games, so they might let him start the 6th.
Singleton, McCormick, Pena for the Astros in their 5th.

Agree, that's the way it always was, and should be considering slow-mo replay from multiple angles. Cabrera walks. Fb at the top of the zone, popped high on the infield, Singleton is called off and Altuve drops, but gets the bounce and throws out Cabrera for the force. Both Altuve and Singleton lost it in the roof, I think Yes, and as an umpire you could watch the foot and listen for the mitt to get the call right. You can’t see both at once…I suppose they listen for the foot fall now…and with offense struggling for base runners, why make it harder to reach base?… Why not watch the ball and listen to the foot hit the base?

Which I think is really dumb. The ball should have to be officially caught, Thump! In the mitt… Uuuuuuuuuuu, you are wrong, Camel-face! 😂 Mmm, not so fast, Buffalo breath. May the bird of paradise lay an egg in your tutu…

Right on the money. Not exactly the same but very close. Wait til he starts referring to himself as Juanie… God, no.

Backdoor slider hits the outside corner, 0-1 Curve well outside, 1-1 Cutter up and in, fouled, 1-2. Curve down and in, pulled foul. Sinker takes a sinker, thinking it was a FB going inside, but it tails over the inner 3rd, and it's a ꓘ. 1 down

Just finished preparing a pot of Chicken Fricassee. How has Schmidt looked today? Other than Buzzer Boy, it looks like he's kept them in check.

Sinker inside, 1-0 Sinker further inside, 2-0 Misses a cutter away, 2-1 Misses a cutter up in the zone over the middle, 2-2 Checks in time on a curve bounced outside, 3-2 Sinker up in the zone, but McCormick tops it to short, Cabrera throws him out, 2 down.

Sinker inside and up, 1-0 on Pena Good sinker, Pena reads it well, but tops it foul near home, 0-2 Sinker up and in, 2-1 Sweeper was supposed to away, clips the inside corner, fooling Pena, 2-2. Sinker thigh high in the middle, inside outed to right. Soto plays it careful, falls for a hit, he keeps it in front of him. Single

Meyers misses a hanging slider over the middle, grounds it to Torres, he gets the force to Cabrera inning over. Top 6, 3-1 Yanks.
17 pitches for Schmidt in the 5th, 68 through 5th.
Schmidt staying in?
PRO: just 68 pitches CON: 3rd time through the order
Stanton Verdugo Berti for the Yanks.
=====================
Girardi's a veteran manager, but you don't want Meyers leading off the inning? Really?
#9 hitter and bad OBA? .296 career OBA

Five innings of one rune ball for Clarke Schmidt! Boone didn't even leave the bench at 4 and 2/3rds and a single from Pena. It's a new year, everyone! Schmidt gets to go past the fifth in his first start and Stroman throws 101 pitches in his first start. Let's hope it stays that way. Enough of this ruin the bullpen before August.

For some reason I thought today's game was an ESPN 7PM game. Just turn on the TV to see Berti delivered an RBI Sweet Glad to have you here, lauren!

2-1 to Stanton. FB waist high inner 3rd...and he takes it. Sigh, 2-2 Cutter away, off the end of the bat, sounded like he broke it, grounder to Altuve is the first out.

Bullpen not as deep as the last few years, either.
