Stanton needs to learn he is a backup and get nights off to free up DH. Hoping that eases up on him and he can have a better season.

Cutter gets a tiny piece of the inside corner, thigh high, 0-1 Change barely misses low in the middle, 1-1 Cutter down and in, and Verdugo nearly gets to it, drives it to fairly deep right center, easy play for Meyers, but **shock**, Stanton tags and goes to 3rd with 1 out.

Berti for his 1st at bat\ Takes a FB high Cutter into the top outside corner, 1-1 Cutter 6 inches outside, 2-1 Big breaking curve starts at his head, almost makes it back to the zone, 3-1 Takes a cutter on the outside corner, 3-2. Hasn't swung yet. Cutter low in the zone, low/away, Berti swings over it. K

LSU won the College World Series last year. Skenes was throwing complete games and well over 100 pitches for LSU, maintaining his velocity the entire game, into the playoffs and the CWS. He's 6'6" 235 with control - just a beast. This is all about greed, and the Pirates are not going to sign him in his free agency year. I agree with you, he's a great prospect. But they didn't let him extend last year or in spring training, I think, so all those innings were almost a year ago. And you're probably right about the contract, unless they get him to agree to a long extension in the next year or two. The Pirates did that intentionally. He could have easily been stretched out during spring or could have been in the bullpen and stretched out as a multiple inning reliever. This is about saving a few coins on your first round draft pick, who is a unicorn. Pitchers like this do not come around very often. It just cheats the player and the fans for the sake of a year delay for free agency.

I'm on a special project at work and will be doing midnights Mon and Tues for cutovers on and off for some time. I need an afternoon nap but want to watch Yankees and Devils. Best of luck at work! Let's hope the Yankees take a huge lead and you can take that nap.

They intentionally treated him like a reliever during spring. This is the Pirates excuse to stretch him out. Skenes is big league ready. The great thing about him is he first attended Air Force Academy prior to LSU; he's going to follow the chain of command without complaint. He's very mature for his age and a natural leader. The Pirates have another young starter named Jared Jones who made his debut yesterday and struck out 10. It won't be long to him and Skenes will be a one-two rookie punch in their rotation.

Slider on the corner for a strike, 0-1 to Trevino Cutter misses outside by an inch or two, called strike 2 anyway. <5% on Gameday so maybe I'm wrong YES K zone slightly narrower than both Gameday and Statcast Cutter up and away, spoiled Fb misses high, 2-2 Cutter outside, blooped over 1st, Singleton tries to make an over the shoulder catch, gets his glove on it but can't hold. Goes for a cheap RBI single, 1-0 Yanks.

Kay happy to be spending Easter with his peeps... Is there anyone that actually likes eating peeps? My grandmother always bought me those circus peanuts, which are made of the same thing as peeps. Just awful, but I didn't have the heart to tell her. Jelly beans would have been perfect.

Oh no. We took an early lead. This is not how we've been drawing it up!

1-1 on Cabrera Back leg curve bounced, 2-1 Wow!! Gave him a fat FB near middle, and Cabrera hit it well, but the fliner goes right to Meyers in left center to end the inning. 99 on that liner.
Bottom 2, 1-0 Yanks. 23 pitches for France in the 2nd, 40 through 2.
Bregman, Diaz, Singleton for the Astros in the 2nd.

A couple of wiseguys are picking the Pirates to make the playoffs because they expect both Skenes and Jones to move them up in a weak NL Central.
