What's the deal with a Monday afternoon game?
I'm not Jewish, so I'm not sure. But it might have something to do that today is the first day of Passover? Then again, it's also Earth Day so maybe they are having the game in the day to send a symbolic gesture and save energy instead of having the lights on for a night game? Just a reminder, these are both guesses.

Either way, the Yankees are the only team in the MLB having a day game today.

After getting rocked in his first 2 starts, Sears is coming off of 2 great ones. 11.1 IP, only 3 hits and 1 ER.
Which Sears shows up today?

J.P. Sears starts for the A's. Drafted by the Mariners, he was traded to the Yanks with minor league pitcher Juan Then in a deal fof reliever Nick Rumbelow in 2017, and the Yanks in turn traded him to the A's, along with two other pitching prospects as well as Cooper Bowman, in the trade that brought in Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino. Now in his 3rd major league season, in 53 games and 47 starts, he has a record of 9-18 with an ERA of 4.35. In 263 major league innings, he's allowed 247, 127 earned runs, 44 HR and 85 BB, and has struck out 221 batters. This year, in 4 starts, he's 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA. In 20 2/3 innings, he's allowed just 15 hits, 10 runs, all earned with 2 HR allowed, 9 BB and he's struck out just 9 as well. His WHIP so far this season is a pretty good 1.161. He was bad in his first two starts but has pitched much better the last two, against the Rangers in Texas and at home vs. the Cards: 1 win, 1 no-decision, Just 3 hits and 1 earned run allowed in 11 1/3 innings in the two games combined.
Against the Yankees, Sears has made 3 starts and has lost all 3. In 15 1/3 innings, he's allowed 19 hits, 15 runs, 13 earned, 5 HR, 7 BB and has K'd 12. His ERA against the Yanks is 7.63, his WHIP is 1.696 and the Yankees' team quadruple slash line against him is a preposterous .302/.371/.635/1.006. Which doesn't mean they'll knock him around today.
Repertoire: Sears is a 3-pitch lefty. He's made a slight change to his pitch mix, throwing his FB somewhat less, and his change a bit more; his slider usage is up very slightly as well. He throws a FB 92-3 about 42% of the time, the slider at 78-9 about 36% of the time and a change at 84-5 about 22% of the time.
=================
Carlos Rodon goes for the Yanks. After the disaster of last season, he's still groping to find his way with the two major changes in his game, throwing a cutter and change more and his slider, curve and FB less, as well as trying to gain better command by not throwing all-out every pitch and saving some extra heat of the FB for high leverage pitches. He's having mixed success so far, at best. He's made 4 starts and is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.86. In 19 2/3 innings, he's allowed 22 hits, 8 runs, 2 HR, 11 BB and K'd 18. His WHIP for the year is an unsustainable 1.678. If he keeps that up all year, eventually, his ERA will catch up and wind up over 5.00. He lasted just four exhausting innings against the Jays in his last starts, giving up 5 hits and 4 BB and 3 runs while striking out 5, taking a ridiculous 101 pitches to get through 4.
Against the A's, Rodon has a strong record, but then, what decent pitcher doesn't? In 6 starts, he's 4-1 with a 3.19 ERA. In 36 2/3 innings he's allowed 31 hits, 13 runs, 3 HR, 12 BB and K'd 36. The A's team quadruple slash line against Rodon is .236/.349/.403/.752.

Volpe is 1-5 with 1 K Soto has never faced Sears before Judge is 1-1, a 3 run HR and 2 BB Stanton is 1-5 with a solo HR and a K Rizzo is 2-6 with 1 K Torres is 1-8 with a solo HR, 1 BB and 4 K Verdugo has not faced Sears Trevino is 1-5 Cabrera has never faced him before.
==============

Nevin is 1-2 with a double and an RBI. Rooker is 0-3 with 2 K Toro is 2-4 with a BB Allen is 1-3 with a K and a BB
None of the other A's in the lineup have faced Rodon before.

After getting rocked in his first 2 starts, Sears is coming off of 2 great ones. 11.1 IP, only 3 hits and 1 ER. Which Sears shows up today? We better play tight defense and pitch well just in case. Since we want at least 3/4, we sure don’t want to start the series with a loss…

The Red Sox and Orioles won yesterday, but the Jays lost. The O's remain 1/2 game back, the Sox have moved into 3rd, 2 1/2 back, the Jays dropped to 4th, 3 games back and the Rays are currently in the cellar, 3 1/2 back.
