You don't use Trevino for that. You use either Jones or Trammell, whichever one wants to try, because both are EASILY RE$PLACEABLE, because both are replacement level players.
So Boone gets away with the STUPID, I guess.
================= Yanks pound on Ross, Viera and a player-pitcher, pile up 19 hits, 6 BB and 4 HR to score 15, and win their first blowout since the 2nd game in Cleveland exactly two weeks ago (that one was 12-3), 15-3. They keep pace with the O's and Red Sox, gain a game on the Jays, and maybe the Rays also, as the Rays are tied at 6, top 10 in Chicago.
Yanks and O's remain tied for first, both 8 games over, the O's percentage points ahead. The Sox stay 2 games back in 3rd. The Jays fall into the cellar, 5 games back, unless the Rays also lose, in which case, the Rays and Jays stayed tied, both 5 games back.

3rd star of the game: Torres, coming out of his slump with 3 hits and 3 RBI (the bases clearing double in the 3rd that basically ended the game early), plus the defensive play of the game 2nd star: Verdugo, the early 3 run HR to crack it open early, three hits, 4 RBI 1st star: Rodon, who not only pitched very well for 6 innings, but more importantly, looked like the pitcher they bought as a free agent for the first time since maybe 2023. That's huge if he can stay there until Cole gets back.

Try to win last night's game and use Tonkin tonight.

THIS, is when Tomkin should be pitching! And even though he pitched yesterday, bring him in again. He’ll probably be released in a couple weeks anyway…

Series finale is (double checks, triple checks) 2:10 tomorrow on YES again; Tobias Myers making just his 2nd major league start for the Brewers, and Marcus Stroman for the Yanks, trying to win the series after blowing the first game in brain-dead fashion. So, Boone, Holmes can't go 2 innings? Well, he'd have had the day off tonight and you'd have him again tomorrow if needed. In the immoral words of Wile E. Coyote: GENIUS!!! Sheer Genius!!.
No reason to belabor this blowout any further, so that's it for me for tonight. See you guys tomorrow afternoon for the finale. Good night to all. Bye.

Hope you have a good run and the weather cooperates! Thanks Kay! Enjoy, Chi. I don’t think I could run the 500 feet to our mailbox these days, but I never did enjoy long distance running. And I needed a reason to run, like to make a catch. No sense running from a bear, they can catch you anyway. Just have someone with you that walks slower and walk away… 🤓

THIS, is when Tomkin should be pitching! And, and, and... And I know this is 20-20 hindsight... You use Holmes for that 2nd inning... You have at least a 50-50 shot to hold the one-run lead in the 10th... And... you let Tonkin finish this game, AND...you don't risk an arm injury to Trevino, AND... You now have Holmes for Sunday's game if you need him, which they have anyway. Well done, Boonie, you minimized your maximize yet again. Take a bow.
