Trevino takes a strike, then a splitter low. 1-1 Splitter low near the outside corner, 2-1 Slider into the top of the zone, lined up the middle for a leadoff single. Good hitting there by Jose. I really like when Trevino just looks to put the bat on the ball and not try to pull anything. Torres and Volpe, too. Almost all of them, in fact. Except Soto, who's allowed to do anything he wants. He's that great. |

OK, I've checked all replies and answered those I needed to answer, so that's going to be it for me for today.
See you guys tomorrow afternoon for the series finale, and late in the game the beginning of the 1st game of the Rangers' 2nd round series against the Hurricanes, which starts at 4:00 or so.

Remember when Nokes got drilled by Clemens and he caught the ball and threw it right back to Roger? I think he confused the Rocket.  couldn't stand clemens even when he was a yankee. hated that we traded wells (who i liked) for him. |

solid win. your typical schmidt start. moments where he looked really good and moments of inconsistency. didn't have his best stuff but toughed through 5.
other than soto, what was considered a weakness coming in, the bullpen has turned into the mvp of this early season. lead the league w a 2.30 ERA. suddenly luke weaver has turned into a stud. after a rough start, he's thrown 11.1 scoreless allowing only 3 hits and K'ing 14. who is this guy? and holmes w another dominant performance. pitching as well as we've seen during his yankee tenure.
offense front loaded their scoring instead of waiting for bottom of the 9th heroics. rizzo & judge the hitting stars. stanton with a double to get us on the board. despite his obvious shortcomings, he's 8-25 w runners in scoring position. overall the team has 5 guys on a 90 RBI pace. trevino having a very solid season w a .281 BA and 2nd on the team w .370 RISP. downside ocab & volpe returning to their evil ways.
hopefully we get to break out the broom today.

Schmidt under Matt Blake has turned into JoMo solid 4th or 5th. Hopefully he isn't traded and turns into a solid top end guy.
No matter what Stanton does his value as a Yankee is shot. This team does not need an overpaid DH that can't run or play the field. We are feeling it with the injuries. No matter if we win the WS or not I can't wait for this guy to be out of a Yankee uniform.
WIN today and keep the momentum rolling because we have the Astros and Rays coming up and we need to win both those series.

Today will be a challenge. Skubal has been dominant so far in 2024, and going back to 2022 he's basically pitched like a prime Johan Santana.

If the weather in New York is anything like it is here about 100 miles south, it will make for very difficult playing conditions. I know the Yanks are off tomorrow, but Detroit is scheduled to play in Cleveland, so if they can't get it in today the makeup game will have to be late in the season. |
