Obviously, both the RS and Yankees want to win the East for playoff purposes......if the RS continue to play as well as they have, there is a lot to think about....if the Yanks had to do a one-game playoff, they expend Severino in that game....if they win, the odds of getting through the next round against the Indians or Mariners is not high (yes, I know what happened last year)……let's say the first three game starters for the 5 game series are Tanake, CC, and Happ…….we don't match up well...…….
My point is, we get a mediocre like Happ or Hamels, we are really weak in pitching going into that 5 game series....I think I would lean toward a trade for an elite pitcher (and pay the price with talent), or I would bring up Sheffield and Loaisiga and keep the talent...Sheffield might be so dynamic that he could be an axe-like starter in the playoffs....

Got to wait until the results of the MRI but this is not good. This guy and the Angels have had such bad luck.

Here's one issue I see with trading Andujar for a front line starter, or in a Machado package. You see, there is this secret site called Fangraphs. Not every one knows about it, and it rates Andujar as a poor third baseman. So, we can dump him off on a GM somewhere. A GM that doesn't know about Fangraphs and all the charts that we all get to see... Oh wait. You mean this is NOT a secret? Uh-oh...You see where this is going right??? By the way, Andujar gets a 70-rated arm, which is by no means average...That's a freaking bazooka... Your point is well taken unless they end up getting less. With Andujar you’re betting on huge upside with the bat thinking worse case scenario is a 40HR per year 1B.

I see Manny in LA this year and in NYC next year. Yanks are going to need the nuclear option on offense to match the RS offense.

He’s not a rental. He wants to play in NY. Do it. Sheff plus Sheffield has great POTENTIAL but is a pitcher with a questionable third pitch who is working on his command. Build a package around Andu for Fulmer. He’s going to get better after having undergone non TJs elbow surgery Gardy Judge Manny Stanton Hicks Sanchez Bird GT DD This LU may be the best one ever put on the field. Five guys with HOF potential

how do you know Machado wants to play for the Yankees?...…….I hadn't heard that....if there were some way to gauge that without meddling, and get some tacit assurance that the Yanks would not just be renting, losing Sheffield might be worth it.....you are assuming then that Manny plays 3B in NY....that would have to be another tacit agreement...……..
I could see Manny in the wintertime saying "I'm a shortstop" and going off elsewhere because he wants to play SS...……….
Cashman will be careful here, I think.....

Machado is a HOF caliber talent, but he also strikes me as a head case and a bit of a prima donna. He's an incredible third baseman, but he doesn't want to play third base. And, he's another of those guys who doesn't always play hard, jogging to first base. That's what is such a travesty about Mike Trout. Plays hard all the time. Never complains. Never makes a spectacle of himself off or on the field. Leads by example. Never sulks.

[/quote I should rephrase my post. The fact that the Yanks are willing to give up top tier talent to get him for 3 emonths leads me to believe that they are not going to get outbid for his services
